Fire/EMS=1 year (Operating Room-10 years, Anesthesia Practise-8 years)
Primary Fire/EMS Department:
Quincy Fire Department, Explorer Post #104
My Training:
10 years working in an Operating room and 8 years running an Anesthesia practise in San Antonio, Texas before moving to Quincy, IL.
One on one training with the Fire Advisors at our Dept.
About Me:
Honesty is the best policy, married with (2) children.
Our son was in the Military, deployed to Iraq (2) times, and, we since wanted to get out of the crime of a big city, San Antonio, Texas and moved to Quincy, IL.
Our daughter has had a dream to be FF since the age of (3), and since moving to Quincy 3 years ago, her dream has become a reality. She is all of 5-1 and 110 lbs. she is doing/learning the job as a FF from our awsome Fireman here in Quincy, IL. and our Explorer Post.
Guess you have to know me, but I am NOT your typical Mom, but I do bake a mean apple pie & can grill ribs the best, LOL, I'm a hands on, go-getter, type person. I took the position as a Chaperone for the female Explorers so they could spend 24 hour shifts at our FD. The roll as an Advisor just
seemed like the national progression. Yep, I am "older" as I mentioned, but since none of the other "younger" Mom's would step up, seemed the right thing to do. And, I have to say even with my extensive medical background, this is a real challenge for me. And, guess what? ........I love it all, especially going into the fires, what a rush! Yeah, the gear is heavy, it's dirty, I smell like smoke all the time, but I actually really love it!
Just to know I am apart of these teens training is amazing. Hopefully one will continue on to become a Fire Fighter.
After attending the Hands on Fire Training at the IL. Fire Isttuite, I have a much, much better understanding of what is involved, and totally respect you Fireman so much more.
Day Job:
Drug Task Force
Relationship Status:
Married
Why I Joined Fire/EMS
I am an Advisor for our Fire Explorer Post in IL. to chaperon the female Explorers & assist in the training and education of teens ages 14 to 20 in the ways of Fire Fighting & EMS. I have had the good fortune to work with awesome Fire Fighting Instructors, and have been able to participate in full gear in several Controlled burns, Aeiral ladder drills and rappelling down our training towers, can't wait to do and learn more.
Thank you Jean for bringing a piece of home closer. The pics are great. Joe H. and I were founding members of Post 104 in Qcy. I may have some old photos at home of when I was in Post 104 if you are interested. Are you aware if anyone has started a history book on the post? Please thank your son for me, for his service. I'm wrapping up my second tour overseas as well. Take care and stay safe.
