About Me:
I am a new member to the Harris VFD. I’ve always had an interest in the Fire Dept since I was a little girl. I figured due to my stature I was unable to be a fire fighter, besides when I was little it was only a mans job & lets face it I’m not a man. :) However Times have changed & women are now able to become fire fighters. My boyfriend is on the Department & talked with me about joining. I spent some free time at the Department learning about their jobs & touring the trucks & equipment. I chose to join & was accepted by city counsel on December 11, 2017. I currently attend college & am finishing up my last 6 weeks & will graduate with my Bachelors Degree in Healthcare Business Management. I am a mother of 3 teenage daughters. My life is busy & my youngest has chosen to join the Department as a Junior Fire fighter. I’m excited to share the experiences this will bring & am proud to be such a great role model for my girls. :) My other two daughters help with events at the Hall or parades. I currently struggle with anxiety & completed a drill in my turnout gear. I learned that I need to learn breathing techniques that will help me remain calm, keep my heart rate under control & allow me to think. Our department is currently in the process of ordering new gear as ours is older. I am excited to have gear that fits me & is able to be moved in. I’m excited for this new chapter & journey in my life. :)
Thank you
