Why I Joined Fire/EMS
When I was 12(1969), my father had a heart attack. Instead of waiting for the one man funeral home ambulance, Liberty Township (suburb of Youngstown, Oh.) passed a fire levy the previous year to increase the size of the fire department by six men by adding an ambulance. The station was 2 blocks away and they were there in one minute. He lived for another 14 years. The thought of saving lives as a career was challenging and meaningful. My twin brother Rick is a FF/EMT in Liberty Twp
Robert, Welcome to the FF Nation. I am glad you joined the group. There is lots to do, read and be involved with. Your participation and involvement is important to us all.
I am needing to provide proof that adding this reflective taping (looking at the same DOT trucking tape that you show) does not violate NFPA standards or that it will not distract from normal ladder testing / inspecting. I know NFPA frowns upon painting the tips or butt of the ladder. Did you have any conversations with NFPA regarding this or meet any resistance in trying to accomplish this? I've read through 1931 and 1932 and do not see anything that addresses this. How did you get HFD on board? Any comments from your ladder testing guys on this?
Thanks so much for the help! Division chief signed off on this today so it's looking good - what a simple yet great idea. Last question, my Lt. wanted me to ask if you know Eric Abbt from HFD. I guess he and my Lt. (from Colorado) are friends. Thanks again and have a gerat new year!
