Good morning Kasey!
I hope he wasn't really screaming? That's scary...if he insisted, that's OK but not screaming. It sounds like we like the same kind of movies. I really enjoy drama and action films like ladder 49. I even got a patch from touchstone pictures from that movie. I think that a guy who is secure in who he is and if he is touch with his emotions, will like any kind of movie. Good luck with university. I hope the sun keeps shining for you!! Stay safe my friend.
Hey Kasey,
I am happy to know that he wasn't screaming! I loved ladder 49 and I even got a patch from the movie company, it is the same as the Baltimore FD except that it has "Touchstone Pictures" written at the bottom and "Ladder 49" across the top. I never saw "Fireproof" but I will rent it and check it out. How is the weather these days? It is getting much better here. The snow is almost all melted and I wear shorts and running shoes when I go out for my walk. Hope you are having a great day!! Stay safe.
Hey Kasey!
I am happy for you and hope the relationship works out. I am also happy for Peyton that she got the school she wanted to go to, even if it means a longer drive, seeing her will be worth it right? Wow, sounds like you have been busy with calls too. When we get a call for a cancer patient in arrest and the family tells us they don't want recusisitation, we stop right there! The documents are not necessary but if there is no other family members there or they insist, we proceed with manuvers. I haven't really done anything too exciting lately. We have been busier than a one legged man in an ass-kicking contest though! Normally, we get about six or seven calls per shift and lately we are getting more like ten or twelve. We are also running all over the city, so response time gets longer. The snow is pretty much all gone and we are getting a lot of rain. I can see little shoots coming up in the garden and I am so happy!! I can't wait to open the pool...maybe in the beginning of May. Take care and keep smiling!!!
Good morning Kasey!
The families always get upset when we stop too but they really need to face reality, I believe it helps the healing process. I do not wish to be recusitated if I am only going to be brain dead in the end. I told my wife....I am a DNR in that situation.
When a person causes fires like that guy did, does he get a bill from the FD?
The temperature reaches into the 90's here in the summer...if I didn't have a pool, I don't know what I would do!!! Have a good day and stay safe!!
Daniel
I understand the law is quite different between the US and Canada. We can decide if the patient is viable or not. In most cases if the patient has been "down" for more than six minutes, irreversible brain damage has occured and therefore the patient would be considered "brain dead". DNR papers certainly help if there are questionable situations but for the most part, we decide what to do.
I think that most fires here are not billed but I do know that if arson is suspected, they will chase the guilty parties down and bill them. 800 acres.....man, that's alot of field!!! Some people never learn.
I am sorry to hear that you are no longer going out, but glad to hear that it ended amicably. You know how some relationships end...never speak to each other again......in any case, I hope he straightens things out and you can resume your relationship. So, did he get a star named after you? You sound like a star to me!! Take care Kasey and please stay safe!
Sorry to hear you are feeling sad but my advice is to keep on smiling, you will see the sun come out again. I still think you are star material!!! Stay safe.
What are friends for if we can't make each other smile? The good thing about heartache is that it will not last too long. The call you got sounds like esophageal cancer or stomach. Was there a lot of bright red blood or was it brownish? Bright red is the esophagus, brownish is the stomach or bowel. The elderly most likely contract stomach or bowel cancer. Interesting stuff but it smells like hell!!! We did a call for a major riot last night outside a nightclub. There were at least 300 people fighting and taunting the police. The riot squad was called in and it took about 2 and half hours to disburse the crowd. We treated three fight related injuries, mostly stitches and teeth. Right after that call, we got another one with the police for a guy who was suicidal and wanted to go out by "death by cop" he was very aggresive and told the police to shoot him or he would kill one of us. It took four of us to wrestle the guy to the ground to cuff him. He was like a bronco gone wild! I was able to subdue him with a jaw hold maneuver that really hurts. I learned it in the forces years ago.....still works today! I am off for the Easter week-end and am grateful for the break!
Happy Easter to you and your family, I hope you get lots of chocolate eggs!!! Stay safe Casey and keep smiling...you are a star!!!
Hey Kasey! I have only been involved in a few riot calls, I am not good with big crowds when they are out of hand! Glad to hear that you are re-certified. We must do that every six months but now I am a CPR instructor and only need do it every two years. Easter was great, yours? Did you get a lot of chocolate? I am also glad to hear that the woman is being treated in a major hospital, I hope she recovers soon. Not much else to report on. Going for a walk!!! The sun is shining and the air is warm!!! What a nice change from the bloody cold winter. Stay safe and keep smiling!!!
Who is the artist at the concert? Is Cameron in a big hurry to see the concert...tell her it is best to arrive alive!!! Happy Birthday to her! You are fortunate to have gotten a nice officer, he could have been mean. No chocolate??? I guess your dad is right...a car, a radio...etc etc sounds pretty good for an Easter present. Keep smiling Kasey!!!
Hey Kasey,
I gotta admit, I don't know any of those bands.....guess I am a little old for that? I like rock 'n roll like The Rolling Stones, Leonard Skynard, Beatles etc etc. I am also glad to hear that it went OK...no trouble! You sound like a very good friend to have. You went just because it was her b-day? There are not a lot of people like you in this world. I hope she knows how lucky she is to have a friend like you! Stay safe and keep smiling Kasey!
Just from talking to you here, I know that you are a great friend! My week has been busy. I finished my shift yesterday by loosing a man of 54 years old. He arrested in the washroom of his work place and no-one found him until like 15 or 20 minutes later. We worked the code and transported but the doctor called it after about 10 minutes. I was very sad and frustrated. I hate loosing people, especially when they are so young. Besides that, I cannot complain about life. How are you doing? Any news from that boy? How's Cameron? Stay safe OK? See ya Kasey!
Thank you for your kind words Kasey. I just got home from a wild week-end! We finished yesterday morning with a murder, a man killed his wife and then tried to cover it up and look like a heart attack. Now we will have to go to court!
Any boyfriends yet? I hope life is being kind to you? Take care and be safe!!
I am sure that you would never end up in a situation like that one. I have to agree that the best place to find an honest man would be at church. Don't be in a rush, the right guy will come along and you may not even realize it right away. Bless you Kasey!!
Hey Kasey!
Good to hear from you. You know patience is a virtue, that's why it's so difficult!!! You sound like a fine person and I know that the right person will come along one day.
Things have been busy around here but are calming down now. We were in the middle of a murder investigation from a call we had last week. We found a person who had been murdered and her husband was telling a bogus story. We called the police and had to sit around with the detactives writing a deposition for over two hours! Now, we will have to go to court and testify as to what we saw and heard since we were first on scene. Fun and games.
I am looking forwadr to going on vacation in July......so far off!!! What did I say about patience?? Have a great day and keep smiling my friend!!!
Yeah people who don't respect others by talking and yelling all night could get on my nerves too. I am sorry to hear that the weather has been so crappy too. I guess if you told the others to just shut up, that wouldn't work very well huh? I hope the sun comes out and they get such a sunburn on their lips that they can't talk!! That way, you get to enjoy the sun and sleep well at night. Take care and try to enjoy the rest of your visit in Florida. I'm praying for good weather for ya! Be safe.
Hi Kasey!
I am glad to know that you got some nice weather! How was the beach? I love hot tubs and could spend the day sitting in one!! My brother has one and we visit a lot!! I am opening my pool tomorrow and can't wait to dive in. The weather here has been great! Did you visit the station house in Florida? Did you ask for any patches by any chance?? Ha!
Don't worry about a few pounds, you are supposed to enjoy your vacation time....that means, no dieting!!! Have a happy and safe week my friend.
Hey Kasey!
Well at least you have a T-shirt from Florida now. If they send you an address would you send it to me so I can trade with them too?
The drunk guy seems like the kind of person we find everywhere!! I guess every town has their runks huh?
Are you nervous flying? You should try sky-diving to overcome that fear! I jumped when I was in the army and the feeling is so incredibly free! Did you have any turbulence on the flight back? How was the meal in flight? I figure anything other than hamburgers has got to be good. I am happy to know that you had a good time. How many of you went? Is Peyton a volunteer firefighter as well?
Good luck on the date, I hope it works out for you, if not, be sure to have a great time just the same! Take care Kasey.....talk soon!
Hi Kasey!
I hope that you do receive the shirt that they promised you. It sounds like you are serious about this guy. I am very happy for you. He sounds like a smart one too, getting things straightened out with his x before getting serious with you. Did you meet through the FD or elsewhere? Is he a patch collector as well? If he is, I would be interested in swapping patches with him too. I hope that you are well and enjoying life to the fullest!!!!! Take care and talk soon.
Hi Kasey!
Great news. I am very happy for you. Isn't it funny how some relationships get started? Think about it....you met at a wreck! Are you taking any summer vacation time? How does it work at the department? I imagine that you must give a certain amount of availability? Did you ever hear back from the department in Florida? That was a school trip right? How long has Ryan been a firefighter? Things here are OK, I am counting down the days to leave on vacation. We are not going anywhere but I won't have to report for work either!! I took the month of July off to sit in the sun and bake! We have been swimming in the pool for about two weeks now, it was a little bit cold at first but not so bad now. I hope the weather is good for you and that you are enjoying yourself to the max!! Say hi to Ryan for me and if he is keen on swapping, great!! Stay safe Kasey and keep smiling!!!
Hey Kasey!
Wow, it sounds like you enjoy travelling? I think you are smart to be doing that while you are young because once you get older you get busy with all kinds of stuff. You are also lucky to be able to just decide when you go to work and when to stay home! I wish I had that flexibility. I guess that volunteer departments take what they can get when they can get it right? You are a good citizen for doing what you do for the community! Does your schedule for work change often?
Too bad that you have not heard from the guy in Florida but many people are like that, they say they wish to stay in touch and the next thing you know, they are gone!
I hope Ryan is doing well at school. Is he planning on going overseas? I wish you both the very best and please remember to stay safe!!! Thanks for remembering to ask Ryan about a swap!!
Hey Kasey!
Good to hear from you. Yes, I am still on vacation and will be until the end of the month. I am just taking it easy and relaxing in the pool.
Thank you for asking Ryan about swapping patches. Wow, if he can score an Iraqi patch that would freak me out!!! Is he OK with going back in 2010? I have such respect for soldiers. I was in the army back in 1972-1983. I did some peace-keeping along the Suez canal and in Cypress.
It sounds like your trip was a blast!! It is always nice to be upgraded isn't it? A big screen TV in each room??? Did they serve champagne and strawberries for breakfast too?? Yeah, what a drag walking up and down all those stairs!!!
Tell Ryan I am very appreciative for any patches he can get. I hope you get the hours that you want at the store. Do you have a lot of seniority there? My daughter is working at a bank and now that summer is here, she get's a lot more hours! I am not sure she wants them but like I told her, make the money when you can, you never know when the job may disappear!!! Take good care of yourself and enjoy the sun!!!
Hi Kasey!
I pray you are well? Don't worry about responding on time.....life is too short to worry. I can understand Ryan being apprehensive about going back. I am not sure I would do a second tour. Nice to have seniority at work!!
My vacation was nice but wet. We had a lot of rain in July. I believe next year, I will take the month of August instead! Stay safe and keep smiling! Tell Ryan I am thinking of him and praying for his safety.
Daniel
Hi Kasey,
Things are goo here! I would imagine that someone with your experience and willingness to work should be hired on the spot. Who would have more experience than you as a firefighter?? I am hoping that the neighboring county sees the potential in you and hires you on. Not too mch else going on....I am on vacation starting today and plan on sliding for a while....life is too short to live in the fast lane all the time. Be good and be positive...you will get a job...you are just too good not to!! Be safe Kasey...
Hey Kasey,
You will do just fine because you have God on your side. When you had the interview, did they know that you were a firefighter? Everyone must get experience from somewhere....we all started with no experience right?
No big plans for vacation.....just a lot of R&R. We're getting pounded with snow right now so I guess I'll be shovelling for a piece tomorrow!!
Have faith in the job market...you are an intelligent person and will get a job doing what you like doing sooner or later! Good things come to those who wait!! Be well and God Bless...
Ha! Sounds like you like the snow......I hate shoveling!! I guess if we didn't get so much, it wouldn't be so bad huh? What did you do to your back? Are you guys covered if you get injured on the job?
We moved from our old station house to a new one that was built last year. It is much bigger, able to hold 150 rigs in the garage. We have a training center upstairs and a full cafeteria downstairs. The main office is equiped with computer check in so we just swipe our cards as we arrive. Once the computer knows we are there, it asigns us a rig. We also have a big lounge equipped with a big screen television and PVR. In the summer, we can use the deck to cook our lunch on one of the three bar-b-q's that are available. They are spoiling us!!!
I am on vacation right now for three weeks and just resting up.
That's about it from here for now. I hope you are well and enjoying winter!!! Take care and good luck with job hunting.
Frozen pizza and grocery store cake......that sounds real good!!! Yeah, our new station is beautiful but it is becoming more and more impersonal. There are a lot more paople there and you don't get the chance to talk as much as before. I like the sound of your station house more. People there are more of a family.........we don't have frozen pizza and grocery store cake but I sure wish we did.
Take care of your back Kasey, as you know we only have one of those and once it is injured.........you are done in this business. I am always worried about my back when we lift a heavy patient in a bad situation....ice, stairs, fire etc etc...
I am praying that you get this job...if I were there I would tell them there is no better candidate for the position!!! Best of luck to you.....GO GIRL!!!!! Be safe.
It sounds like you really enjoy the station house...and that is great because these kind of people are the best kind if family anyone would ever want!
I am sure you will do well at the interview. Making eye contact shows that you are confident of yourself. Show them who you are and let them know that if they hire you, they will be getting someone very special!!!! Take care and say hello to everyone at the station house from me up here in Canada!!! Be safe!!
Hey Kasey,
What's not to like? If they don't hire you, it's theri loss. I am sure that thigs will work out for the best. You were honest with them and that quality will shine through. As for all the tests you need to take once you are hired......I guess you cannot study for 'em huh?? Take care and you know that I'm pullin' for you!!! Let me know what happens either way would you?
Kasey....relax! You are a natural for this job. Just be yourself and all will go well. They obviously can tell that you are cut out to do this type of work and the experience that you bring to the job is invaluable. You will ace the polygraph because as long as you tell the truth the machine does the rest! I hope that you enjoy the time you spend learnig the job and I know that you will be an asset to them!!! Go Girl!!!!!
Well, if you really didn't have to work or anything then not getting paid wasn't so bad!!! Did you learn anything from it?
I am glad the polygraph is over, I am sure you passed with flying colors!!! Let me know when you hear anything.....stay safe and keep amiling Kasey!!
Hi Kasey,
Just stay focused on all the tests you are passing!!! You are sure to be hired. Your attitude is also #1!!! Stay safe Kasey...let me know what happens...please.
Ha! I knew you would.......how could they pass you up? You must be proud of yourself Kasey. I am sure that the orientation will be a breeze for you. Let me know how it all goes!! Once again, congratulations....you rock girl!!!!
Hey Kasey,
Glad to have you as a friend. I see you been hooked for 4 years now. I have been volunteering for a little less than a year but really like it. Its kinda slow in my community, which dont get me wrong, is a good thing. I love making calls though, and helping others. I see your a dispatch also, that has to be tough staying calm for everyone. Sounds like you got a new position, congrats. Good luck to ya and be careful out there. Hollar back if you want. Take care and God bless. AJ
It is good to hear from you. How are things going in your life? I do hope that all is well and you are enjoying every day!! Are you working in Fire/EMS? Thanks for sending me a message..it is wonderful to hear from you again!!! Please stay safe.....
I am happy to know that you are well and still involved in Fire/EMS, as well as the Christian Life way store. Do you have a patch from the dispatch center you work for? I am still a patch freak!!!
Last year I started an Honour Guard here in Montreal and we are moving ahead slowly. At the end of April I will fly to Vancouver for a conference with 27 other Honour Guards from across Canada to discuss strategies and methods of running the guard. I am also much more into teaching CPR/AED and First Aid in schools, nursing courses, hospitals and other places. I think I will probably retire in about three years or so depending how things go. Other than that, life is great!! Stay safe and keep in touch!!!
Hi Kasey!!
Thanks for thinking of me in the patch department. I wish I could wear jeans and a T-shirt to work too!! The Honour Guard is going very well, I am traveling to Vancouver, Canada at the end of the month for a two-day conference with Honour Guards from across Canada. I am excited about it!! It is a five hour flight and I have never been to Vancouver before.
My back is much better, thank you for asking. I am getting old though.....I turned 55 in March and am thinking of retirement within the next five years or so.
Remember to stay safe and keep smiling...you brighten up the room!!! Take care Kasey.

Be safe.

I am sure you will do well at the interview. Making eye contact shows that you are confident of yourself. Show them who you are and let them know that if they hire you, they will be getting someone very special!!!! Take care and say hello to everyone at the station house from me up here in Canada!!! Be safe!!

Glad to have you as a friend. I see you been hooked for 4 years now. I have been volunteering for a little less than a year but really like it. Its kinda slow in my community, which dont get me wrong, is a good thing. I love making calls though, and helping others. I see your a dispatch also, that has to be tough staying calm for everyone. Sounds like you got a new position, congrats. Good luck to ya and be careful out there. Hollar back if you want. Take care and God bless. AJ
