So how are the Ireland depts set up? Paid/Volunteer/combo? brigades?
  • Daniel Robert Garvin

    Hi Peter,
Thank you for agreeing to a trade of some sort. Too bad there are no more patches, I love Ireland!!! My ancestry is there from County Dungarven. My T-shirt size is large.
Yes, violence against crews interests me. Here in Montreal, if there is a violent act perpetrated against a firefighter or paramedic, the police are called directly to deal with the situation. If a call is flagged for past violent behaviour, the crew will not proceed unless there isa police backup rolling on the call.
I have found personally that most violent people will back away from an axe! We responded to a call where we discovered a woman who had been beaten by her husband, when he saw us he charged with a knife, I grabbed an axe and stood my ground, he backed off and became verbally agressive, we turned the hose on him and he became very docile...the police arrived and arrested him. He was charged with public menace and death treats as well as battery to his wife.....what a job!!! But I love it!!!!

    Be safe my friend,
    Daniel

    Hello Peter,

Thank you for the information, perhaps one day I shall visit your beautiful country and enjoy a few pints of the finest ale in that village!!!
Yes, we are attacked as well but not on a regular basis. I shall contact my superior and see what I can get in the way of statistics for your research.
    My address is:
    Daniel Garvin
    4399 Viau Street

I usually ask that things of a personal nature be sent to my home address to avoid questions from the officers.......nosey buggers they are! What size shirt do you wear lad? Thanks for this and I shall be in touch!!!

    Cheers,
    Daniel

    Good day Peter!
No, nothing yet here either......I am quite surprised at the length of time it takes for a parcel to arrive on either side of the pond!!! What is going on with our technology?? I will have an eye on the post! If I see a postman wearing anything remotely similar....there will be bloodshed!! Be safe my friend..

    Daniel
  • Daniel Robert Garvin

Oh no, I would certainly insist that he remove it first!!! Hopefully we shall both see a package soon. Be safe my friend...

    Good morning Peter,

I am glad to know that it finally arrived, I have hope that I can report the same soon!
Yes, French is the official language of Quebec, No, I am English, as a matter of fact, I have very strong Irish roots. I do not know if Europe and North America differ in shirt sizes but I imagine it is possible. The water-proof patch is a new thing that came out this year. I believe that the style was copied from Spain. Be well my friend and as soon as the shirt arrives, I will contact you!!!

    Stay safe,
    Daniel

    Hello Peter!!!!!

Great news my friend....the T-shirt you sent me has arrived safe and sound!!!!!!!!!!!! I am over the top with joy Peter!!!!! This is a beautiful T-shirt, I don't want to wear it for fear of getting it soiled! I am very appreciative of your efforts and kindness. I told the postman that if he ever saw another postal worker wearing a shirt like this, I would appreciate his coordinates so I could pay a visit and compare notes........he laughed and said he would keep an eye out for it. Perhaps I will nab the culprit after all???
In any case, I am so happy to have this shirt Peter! I am extremely proud to say that I am from Irish roots and now I shall display those roots on my body!!!
If there is anything I can do for you from this end Peter, just say the word and it shall be done my friend! Please stay safe at work and at play!!!

    Your Canadian friend,
    Daniel
  • Daniel Robert Garvin

I figure it must be the second one because as you say, it was wrapped in double envelope and a plastic protective cover as well. I shall be hoping to meet the postal worker who nabbed the first one.....
I am so appreciative of your efforts Peter. I can send you patches from Canada if you like. I anticipate seeing the picture as well. You are a very kind man Peter! Again, I cannot thank you enough for the shirt and for keeping your eyes peeled for patches. Anything you need here........just ask! Stay safe my friend. Until the next time.....

    Your Canadian friend,
    Daniel
