I have been serving those in emergency settings for the last 11 years , more on the dispatch ,operator end of it. We handle various seasons, such as rainstorm, firestorm, windstorm, and heat storm situations. I love working to help in public

Why I Joined Fire/EMS
I am 49 and am pursuing a career in medical field , aside from working fulltime. Kids are grown and its time I pursue my 2nd part of my life with a career God has placed upon me. I have been told, ( and I knew this) I am way too old for the fire department!
But, am venturing into possibly dispatch , definately volunteering, EMT training, C.E.R.T., and the safety training field in my current line of work. I am christian and was happy to know there was a site like this!
ain't kids great? Mine are grown too and you never stop nurturing. The only thing we do have to stop is telling them what to do. That is the hard part, to let them learn and grow as we did. "raise them up in the way they shall go and they will not depart from it" I've seen them stray, but so did I. I've seen them blunder, but so did I. I see them make choices I wouldn't, but so did my folks. Being there to prop them up is our job now.
Good morning and welcome to the Nation from Knoxville, TN. 1959 must have been a busy year for labor and delivery. There's a lot of us 49'ers running around still. Have a great weekend and feel free to add me if you like.
BB, Most fire departments won't take new hires after the age of 35, some as late as 40. However, I'm starting my second fire-rescue career after retiring from my first job - so my advice is to continue to look with your focus on a smaller department with less red tape. Lou
thank you , as well! Hello right back to you all the way from Long Beach California. It was a beautiful day here today, but getting colder down to 80 degrees.. not the typical hot summer as I am used to. But , will take it!
appreciate the welcome ,
Your never to old, age is just a number its all about how you feel and take care of yourself. Dont ever let anyone say your too old, you sure dont look old ! stay safe and reach for your goals.
Hi Belmont Beauty!! I just wanted to stop by to say hello! I too am a Christian and proud of it! Any chnce of swapping a patch with me?? Stay safe, God bless!
Hey Belmont Beauty!
Thanks for responding to my inquiry and I wish you the best of luck with your studies! Perhaps once you graduate, we ca trade patches.
As for the snow, I am so tired of it that I hate going outside! I wish I could say it was a chilly 74 degrees here. Would you believe that the temperature today is -27!!! Exposed Skin freezes in less than five minutes. I have no place left to pile the snow from my driveway and it's still falling. Stay safe out there and again, good luck with your studies!
Hello from the midwest. I was reading your profile and wanted to say "don't give up." You can be amazed at what a little will power and the hand of God can do. Hope you are doing well and we can share a few stories.

Never say you're too old. My first partner, the one I went thru the fire academy with, was 58. I was 17. He and I were the top two in the 9 week class. They gave us both honor grad because we were 1/2 a point apart. No way you're too old my dear.
Hello, had to check your profile because I live in a place called Belmont and thought it interesting. By the way..you're only as old as you feel. I'm 38 and keeping up with 20 yr olds. Good luck in whatever you decide.
