Why I Joined Fire/EMS: was kind of a family thing. my grandfather was a firefighter, my mother an EMT so i was kind of born into it
Why I Love Fire/EMS: the feeling you get when you know that you have helped someone eles.also because of the brotherhood.
Top Issues Facing Responders:: staffing (recruitment and retention). the decline of vol has really had an impact on the fire service

green...yellow, whatever they are thay arn't real trucks reguardless.......and sorry but red is still the way to go!!!- i guess they had a big structure fire of some sort they where callin like everyone and they where there for a while but idk didn't really hear much. i was hopin i could maybe get the scoop if you where there lol. we where just standby at their station since it was on buttermilk rd. so they had everyone outa ithaca and around there instead.

well i had to work this morning then i was supposed to go to a benefit for the little boy that survived that double fatal we had abt a month ago. i was supposed to work untill around 3, the other girl never showed up for her shift untill almost 7. then i went and hung out with a couple friends came home to clean. tomorrow i have to work now, was suppossed to haave a day off, not gonna happen!...i still got TONS of stuff i gotta do before monday-and ofcourse we have a company mtg. on monday and i have to present a bunch of stuff. in kinda nervous, i hope i did everything right lol.

so yea nothin fun this weekend. but next week is the woman's conferance in Montour and im super excited. and the weekend after that im going to connecticut to go camping and go to an openhouse at NewHaven University. and getting to hang out with one of my "big brothers" and my bestest best friend. its gonna be a great weekend!!

ha well i just got back froma structure fire...fun fun. i got to huddle underneath the main attack line with an 1-3/4 babysittin two propane tanks. meanless to say my gear is absoloutly soaked it was dripping wet. but it was fun though. And we are all gettin ready for our weakly "drunk calls" that we have been getting every weekend now since the bars are doing a free beer fridays thing, among various other stupid things. ----back to the structure fire, it was kinda funny actually because tonight is our weekly training night it worked perfectly. it was a two story garage that was actually pritty good size. looked like it could have been an appartment if they wanted it to be. we knew that it was gone when we got there but we still had one hell of a roarin fire. it was a good experiance for me i got alot of hose time and had my own line for the majority of the call.

LMFAO nice! haha we have actually done something simmilar...we had a field on fire this spring out in the middle of nowhere and there has supposed to only be two trucks at the scene all the rest where instructed to stay at the driveway and lay the line upo to us because of hoe the terrain was etc. but one of the asst. chiefs and a captain thought they knew more than everyone eelse that was already up there. they tried to bring the largest, heaviest damn truck we have up this tiny little tractor path that had a big incline and then a dropoff that we could barely clear with our little pickup we have for our brush truck. they ended up making it to the section of yard that goes to the field and sank and got stuck so we had the chiefs truck and our brush truck pullin tryin to get it rocked out enough for the wheels to grab on the lawn. we almost made some progress but it was bending the hitch off of the bumper so we had to get someone to come in and pull it out.lets just say that chief wasn't all too happy that day. and that captain is no longer a member and the asst. chief that was driving is no longer an officer lol

ha nice ....lol that always sounds like a good day in my book lol ===we havn't had anything here since that structure we got on thuraday, i have reacue teck class tomorrow, our regular training night is thuraday and we are haveing a birthday party for one of the guys afterwords-(thats gonna be a fun night lol) and than on saturday im leaving to go to CT im so excited!!! :)

ours starts in oct. and then im taking FAST right after that... but thank you!!! -----the other issue is that i don't think that my chief would alloe it, i tried to take ff1 in ithaca so i didn't have to wait so long for it here but he had a hissy fit about it...damn chiefs any way lol. but dosn't matter i got it and had a wonderful time so i guess it was worth it to wait after alL. thank you for the suggestion tho i really appreciate it!!!!

ooow that sux im sorry... i was in CT went camping in the rain tent leeked, collapsed on my side in the middle of the night but we all managed to get soaked tho... and i also get to visit a friend at his dept. near the city on the way out of NY, then sunday went to a collage openhouse for the University of New Haven it was AWESOME!!! there fire science program is amazing! i think im changing which collage i was originaly thinking about. ---other than that it has been really pritty slow here we havent had any calls since friday so... but i found out that there is a vidoe of the bush rd fire that we had 2 weeks ago im gonna load it onto my page.

awwe how cute! lopl yea the whole fall fest. thing this weekend. ugh im exhausted from it! but its so much fun tho. yea every year we have the Valley Woodcarvers group that comes and sets up at the station and then we have food and all that, woke up at 5 to be there today all day 14 hrs long day

ha i coulda told ya that lol. it isnt much better sittin on the concrete floor in the truck by either lol for about the first 6 months or so last year thats where i had to keep my gear because there where no more sppots on the rack and couldn't keep mine with me because of school, no car, different houses etc. so all last winter i froze when i put on my gear

lol nice.... ha yea me and my pops where talkin about people drive today-i got to take the fire truc over and do fireprevention for the little kiddies today, i look forward to this one day all year long! ....and im so proud of my little sissy! I TAUGHT HER SO WELL lol evern right now shes only 5 and knows more about fire fightin than half our members. hell, she even knows the right way to use the fire extunguisher. lol thats more than i could say for some lol

well, so this past sunday (the 25th) our sister dept decided they where gonna do a live teraining evolution. nobod from out dept had any idea about it. OMG i wa furrious! i walk into the gas station w some friends after a football game friday nighth and a guy from owego walks in.. so we get talkin a bit and he goes yea so that training sunday over in weltonville is gonna be a blast! i go wtf you talkin about we didn't hear any thing about that and they never got it cleared. so i called my chief he saidthat we didn't get invited supposedly, but the weltonville's chief's story is that we WHERE invted and since we had our breakfast last sunday when it was originally scheduled they even changed and moved it back a week. all the departments around us got to go but us i was sad. and the guys from weltonville said that i coulda came over anyway but my chief wouldn't let any equipment go so...i told my buddies over there to let me know ahead of time the next time they do somethin fun and save me a pack lol.

other than that relatively slow...we had 3 cals over the weekend from the rain, all minor MVA's nothin "fun" lol and the one was only just traffic control so... but yea, OOH and i got a phone call today about FAST and SURVIVAL so that made me realy happy lol

lol yea...actually we need more people. we have the bare minimum on the list in order to even have the class. and i know that one of those people arn't coming for sure because its my ex boyfriend that moved to VA lol.....so i am trying to help the instructor recruit more people for survival, it will be more fun with a bigger group anyway :) but yea i can't wait im excited

no idea what part and don't care lol....and he never got his natn'l cert. so he went through 4 months of FF1 upi here for nothing lol i thnk that its atually kinda funny myself, maybe im a cruel person idk lol.......and i hear ya with the no time thing, been there. but sinc im not working now i have a little more time but i don;t know what to do with it cuz im so used to havin my schedule jam-packed, im really glad that classes are starting up again! it will give me a break from school amd homework 24/7 especially since we havn't really had any calls lately
