    Hey Doc,
How's retirement? It's really wierd hearing Chief 1 on the air, and it not being your voice. Took a lot of getting used too.

    Hey Doc!
    Hello from Building 4.
It is great to see you here.
  • rescuediver1122

Beaver Falls is doing good. but no more steel mills. fire dept is busy as we do many things and travel all over the county for rescues. had some major fires like the turners , part of the old ingrich plant that became a salvage yard and tire sales it burnt for a week. good to hear from you. would like to hear some old stories.
  • Donald Moltrup

Thanks for the update. I'd love to hear some old stories. I was inspired to get into the fire department by a family friend who used to be chief of the Chipewa Twp. VFD. I remember when Beaver Falls FD had a loud horn at the station that would call out the box number for fire calls. I also remember a Seagrave sedan pumper that used to run out of the College Hill station. Do you remember the Moltrup Steel Company in Beaver Falls? It has been out of business for some time and the buildings were recently demolished. It was owned by a cousin of my Dad's. Does BFFD have a web site? My department's web site is www.hvfd.com.
  • T.J. Snyder

Just wanted to say hi, I miss you & Caole, hope all is well!!!!
  • T.J. Snyder

I'm doing great, Jon & I got married 2 weeks ago and we went to Ocean City for a few days afterwards.
  • dan172

Was the chief Oaky Kline? I do remember Moltrups, And the old Seagrave. They closed down the College hill station a while back. I think they are also tearing down Moltrups. The last I knew BFFD still had the dive horn at the # 1 station. So how did a guy from Beaver Falls end up in Florida?
  • Donald Moltrup

Dan, The old Moltrup Steel Co. was recently demolished. Although I was born in Beaver Falls, I didn't really live there long but visited often as most of our relatives lived there. I ended up in MD by the time I started elementary school and joined the Hyattsville Fire Dept. in '62. I became fire chief in '70 and served in that position through '05 when I retired and moved to Florida. As a child, I was inspired to get into the fire service by a family friend who was chief of Chippewa Twp.VFD at the time.

    Trayer,

Carole and I are coming up to attend Hyattsville's banquet next Saturday. Unfortunately, it is the same night as Waynesboro's banquet this year. I have been forwarding Franklin County pictures as I come across them. I'll see if there are any that I may not have sent to you as yet.

Your length of service and continued interest is humbling, and inspirational. I hope I'm still enthused after 45 years!
  • Donald Moltrup

Thanks Tom. It was certainly a pleasure for me to serve and I was honored to be the Fire Chief in my department for 35 years. It was all possible because I had a lot of great people backing me up.

Thanks for the add Chief!! Did you get up for Jack's dedication saturday?? I wanted to go but health issues keeped me from going. Saw the picture you sent to Dave Statter with you and Jack. Can you send me a coy of that Please? My address is 8456 New Hampshire Ave Silver Spring, Md 20903-3308 Thanks!!
  • Donald Moltrup

Floyd, I wasn't able to get to Jack's dedication. My oldest grandson's graduation from Marine Corps. recruit school at Parris Island, SC, was the day before and we just couldn't work out the logistics to be in DC for the 7th. As for the photo, that was scanned from a slide that my Dad took in the '60s so I only have it in electronic format.
  • Floyd Aldridge Jr

Congrats to your grandson. Can you send it to me on my email. Its dcfdtech@yahoo.com. Thanks and stay safe!!!
