I am painting as usual,we have the county fair starting this week. I found this site by accident, I was looking for training demos onlineand stumbled onto it. I joined, met some people all over really fast. Hope you are well and keeping cool.
  • Katie R

Thanks for the welcoming words. My department is very safe, especially compared to some nearby that recently didn't use any accountability system on a house fire - yikes!
  • Rick

Tim, If the change you seek was'nt already in place, you would have been issued the same gear your Dad was issued in 1969 and I was issued in 1961. I fear we will always have annoyingly outspoken advocates of the "That aint the way I learnt it." and the "We aint never done it that way." schools. I share the concern for the frequency of LOODs. Look how far we've come. Firefighters have been virtually incapsulated in the interest of personal safety and we have developed the widely held and good philosophy that pulling out is actually an acceptable strategy but, in the biggest picture, I have to believe we continue to die for these basic reasons. 1) We are involved ten times the alarms we were since the mid 20th century. In my little department it has actually gone from about 70 to over 700 per year. 2) Inspite of all education and awareness to the contrary, there are those who will always be driven to beat the odds and prove their own invincability. It has to do with a basic character trait common to firefighters. 3) Physical fitness and physical compitance are often waved in favor of seniority. If chubby puppies and aging couch potatoes dont get out of the way voluntarily, they should be required to change their life style or loose the title. Almost nobody wants to put that in writing. Keep The Faith
  • Padre Pete

Right. When it was 70 alarms in 61, there was no such thing as an EMT and no one had an ambulance. Today ,like everyone, 85 % of the 700 is EMS. My experience is that The Service has developed a fabulous wide and deep pool of talented educators and resources. The pain, I think we share is there will always be horses we can only lead to it
  • Timothy Sendelbach

    Tim:

Things are going well. Still getting adjusted, but no complaints.

Yes, I will be in Indy next week.

    Take care and stay safe.
  • Padre Pete

Tim, Guess I'm a little late on picking this up. Like everyone else, we are an EMS department that ocassionally fights fire. About 85% EMS, 2% actuall smoke related and 13% other ( at least half are false automatic alarms).
  • Dirk Lewis

Hey thanks for taking the time to check it out. I hope you register and use the site we sure would enjoy having you there!! thanks again!!!
