HELLO RACHEL ELIZABETH WELCOME TO FFN . I KNOW YOU WILL ENJOY THE SITE. FEEL FREE TO ADD ME AS A FRIEND IF YOU WANT TO.ONE CAN NEVER HAVE TOO MANY FRIEND IN THIS WORLD.HAVE A GREAT 08 AND BE SAFE OUT THERE.
Welcome to the Firefighter Nation. In addition to the relatively cool videos and fire scene photos, there are numerous groups, discussions and chat available.
If you have never had the opportunity, take a minute to explore firefighterclosecalls.com and the secret list. This is a wonderful web site to explore and learn from the mistakes of others. It is also, sadly, a roll call of those whom have made the ultimate sacrifice, in their service to their communities.
We have all joined the Public Safety Community for a variety of our personal reasons. Some of us are paid, while others volunteer. Many are firefighters, while others enjoy the EMS side of the house. We have active firefighters, line officers, chiefs, administrative officers, and a number of old timers who have seen most of the mistakes already made at least once. We have firefighters with many many years of experience, and others that, well, don’t. All are welcome here in The Nation. We welcome your input, just as we hope that you learn from the experiences of others.
Personally, I have 31 years service to the local fire department. I have held most line officer positions, and some administrative as well. Now part of the Old Guard so to speak, I am less inclined to go charging into where others are trying to escape. Instead, I choose to monitor the fire scene closely, attempting to ensure the safety of all on the fire scene.
I welcome you to the FFN. Here we all share one common goal.....
hello there Rachel .like to be one of your friends here.love your smile and your eyes.hope that you are warm up in PA.without snow.be safe out there .danny
This is what we do for all members. There is a requires number of hours of training that all of our members have to get every year. Our chief reviews the call sheets and the training reports every month. He knows who is coming around and who just braggs about being on the department. Your department should have something like a weekend drill for your jr's. You could learn where stuff is on your engines. How to do support operations on the fireground. It's the little things you learn now that will be valuable later on in life. We are always learning in the fire service and sometimes you can teach an old dog a new trick.
Hey whats up! thanks for the add request. im kinda new around here and making friends is difficult. looks like your in the same position im in as far as being an explorer. what do you do at your department?
Well at my EMS I'm referred to as "the ride-along" but my shirt says explorer lol. You must be over the explorer program in your area, I'm just part of the program. I ride along with the EMS crew on calls, just so I can see how things are handled and what to do in certain situations. They let me do simple things just to help out like check blood sugars, spike IV bags, hooking people up to the heart monitor, or whatever they need me to do. They apparently have high hopes for me as far as going to school and doing this as a career because they have thrown me into some pretty gruesome calls just to see if I could handle it. My advice is as long as you are comfortable with your junior firefighters and explorers let them do whatever they can. That hands on experience will help them. But if you don't feel they take what they do seriously, make em stay at the station lol.
Hey there cutie, THANKS for adding me & I hope we become very gr8 friends, if you EVER need me. I will be here for you :-) Ok? I love you very MUCH & ALWAYS remember that. Love always Jimmy P.S. STAY SAFE!!!!
I don't know really. From what I understand they are training me on just the basic stuff. How to use your turn out gear, breathing techniques to make your air last longer, building searches, hose operation, etc. Then in about 2 weeks I am gonna join and they are gonna issue me some gear.
hey i want you to do me a favor.... find out what kind of training you have to have before you can work as a paramedic with a fire department. I know you have to have your NR/EMT-P, but im not sure as to what training you have to have as far as the firefighting part of it goes.
