About Me:
I graduated from the Cecil County School Of Technology in 08' from Fire Science. I was lucky to be accepted, and got many certifications from the class. Now being graduated, I am looking forward to starting a carrer in the U.S Coast Guard for Health Services.
I dont really have a family from the fire service, I really just was self interested. I went through pre-basic with an open mind and got alot of help from my friends and officers. I got hooked on it, took my first truck ride on my 16th birthday. Was the best present I got. Ill never forget it. Now, I couldnt see myself doing anything else with my time. The feeling that you are making a difference, big or small, is the best feeling in the world. I love being able to help someone, and save lives.
Why I Love Fire/EMS
I love being able to make a difference in this world.
Hi Holly,
Glad to see that you are keeping things safe up there in N.E.! I used to live in the Earleville area, Hacks Point to be exact, although I was not a member of the FD up there. Since I have become a part of the FD here in Oxford, I can say that I truly have another family as well! I'm glad to have become a part of the brother/sisterhood of the FD and I would like to have you as a friend here on FFN.
I have a big favor to ask.. Are u a active firefighter in your state?? If so I have a report to do for my fire class about women in fire. I know you are a lol younger, but still it would be great for my project. I have to do an oral report, and I want to interview a female fighter. I have some question already generated. If you could help me I would greatly appreciated. Hope your having a great week also be safe, and take care.
1. What fire department are you currently stationed at? (could you add here if your the only woman in your department or if there are others)
2. How long have you been working at that department?
3. Did the department you currently work for accept you with open arms being that your a woman?
4. In any time in your career has any male firefighter challenged your abilities as a woman firefighter?
5. Were you ever nervous knowning you are a woman going into a "male" dominate career?
6. When going through the application process did you ever get turned down for being a woman?
7. Have you ever had someone tell you that you wouldn't make it, because you are a woman? (Anyone you worked with or someone you knew personally or just came across.)
8. Is there anything specific that motivated you the most to become a firefighter?
9. Tell me one thing you find rewarding about being a firefighter?
10. What advice would you have for me, and other women going into the fire service?
