Why I Joined Fire/EMS
I grew up around the fire service and always looked up to the firefighters and always wanted to be one. Most of the firemen I knew growing up were and some still are on our department it was like learning from your childhood heros. I really dont believe there ever was a time when I didnt want to be a fireman.
Why I Love Fire/EMS
I love the rush of the call and the feeling you get from helping others
Top Issues Facing Responders:
I would say for our department it would be old equipment, having active members and training. Its hard for volunteers to keep equipment and training up to current levels with limited funds and limited time. Now days its hard to get volunteers who can give the time needed or are willing to even volunteer.
hey wes how is every thing going ? well the wind keeps blowing and no rain we been a little busy with a few grassfires been really luckly this year all the windy very dry i'm suprise were not out all day and all night. stey safe.
Wes, what are your guidelines when considering the use of PPV? I am interest in PPV and your thought process on when to use PPV. Take care and be safe. Robert
Hey Wes, Thanks for the info. The next training burn we have, I going suggest different scenarios where we could use PPV as the primary means of ventilation. I would like to use PPV when appropriate to minimize any damage to a structure. These days not everyone has insurance. I'm always researching for new "toys" to play with and to make our tasks easier. Like I tell the new boots (probies), work smarter not harder. I hope to increase the horsepower of our PWCs that we use for water/ocean rescue. I really like having a large amount of power in reserve to escape a 20' wave. It does occassionally get that big out in SoCal. I'm on duty and have to run. Take care and be safe. Robert
Hey Wes- I just joined the website and saw the back page about favorite firefighter books. I live in Malibu, spent 3 years with LACoFD and CalFire preparing a novel about a boy who comes of age as a wildland firefighter at a helitak camp (Camp 8 LA County). The book has been well received and Fire Chief P. Michael Freeman of the LACoFD liked it enough to send it to the County Board of Supervisors.
Perhaps you would enjoy reading it. The title is One Foot In the Black. You can buy it on Amazon or, if you buy it from the online store of the Wildland Firefighter Foundation, they get the profits. http://wffoundation.org/webstore/index.html.

Thanks Wes. Its interesting. I have spent a lot of time on the US Wildland Firefighters website. They seem a bit more relaxed. Each site had its own personality. I'm still learning about this one
Falfurrias is in South Texas about 70 miles north of the border and 150 miles south of San Antonio. We have a lot of grass and brush fires when it gets dry here.

Thanks Wes. I may not have a college degree, but I have a PH.D in common sense. I graduated Suma Cum Laude from the School of Hard Knocks. Unfortunately, common sense is the one thing I haven't been able to teach anyone. But, I'll keep trying. Be safe brother.
Thanks for the words of encouragement.I believe you are a good firefighter. We are unfortunate in this side of the world.I will always try my best. You are a brother to me. Wes, I believe we are now friends.
Hey wes that's a good looking truck those old 6x6s are awesome off road, we have a 5 ton (in the pics) and a 2 1/2 ton. Looks like your dept needs some wildland gear. Glad to meet you and thanks for adding me as a friend.
We haven't had any overheating but most of our roads are curvy and we don't get a lot of speed the most hiway they get is mutual aid and that's usually not more than 10 miles or so. I haven't had any major grass fires since rejoining and we didn't have any wildland gear before but i can see where sometimes it wouldn't be enough.
Wes I saw the comment yo mad to Donnie about your deuces overheating. We had the same problem ended up pulling the rads and having recored. it was a pain but it worked. Good luck and stay safe.
I used to be pretty open and trusting, but then I found out the hard way that there are lots of people that will take advantage of that in a variety of ways.
There are lots of selfish and dishonest people in the world, and especially on the internet where it's easy to rip people off anonymously, especially if they leave their information out there for everyone to see.
Thus, my position that there are some things in real life - and online - that deserve privacy. My comments to some of my friends in a couple of closed groups are part of that.
You may be open and trusting, but you need to respect other people's right to be less open and less trusting than you are.
I HOPE THEY WERE GOOD PEOPLE , I WILL TRY TO LOOK UP INFO ON THEM . IF YOU GET A CHANCE AND TALK TO THEM AGAIN GET ME A PHONE NUMBER , I WOULD BE MORE THAN GLAD TO CHAT WITH THEM. THEY SAY WE ARE ALL RELATED SOME HOW OR ANOTHER ANYWAY -HEHEHEHHE .
