About Me:
I do fundraisers, Trainings, classes, and try to be there to learn. I try my best to be around the firehouse on meetings, trainings, and worknights. I'm looking forward to possibly taking firefighting essentials and hopefullly soon i'll be taking my EMT. I enjoy every minute of being there and wouldn't change anything about it. I dont get the chance to run many Fire calls but I do run EMS more than fire. My first EMS call was for a possible heart attck, i was nervous, but I did learn a lot just from that one call. One thing being not to rush on any call and stay calm. lol. The firefighters in my company are very outgoing and love to joke around and laugh, but when the tones drop, they turn to serious in a flash. I hope that I can go further in the medical services when i'm older too.
I became a Volunteer Firefighter when i was 14 because it sounded like something i would like to do. It takes physical endurance and courage and that was something i thought i should work on, plus I like to help people out. I joined my ambulance squad when i turned 16 because that also just seemed like something I would like to do and I could help more people.
Why I Love Fire/EMS
Helping people and challenging myself to be better.
Top Issues Facing Responders:
Many people aren't very physically fit, and that hinders their performance in the field. I've heard companies argueing over an open mic on who's juresdiction the call is in and wasting time. Fire companies and ambulance companies not getting along in the feild and I think eventhough you're not thinking when packing up on the trucks for a call, it would be wise to put on aseat belt, they are in the trucks for a reason. You cant help anyone if you get hurt along the way.

Welcome to the Firefighter Nation. In addition to the relatively cool videos and fire scene photos, there are numerous groups, discussions and chat available.
If you have never had the opportunity, take a minute to explore firefighterclosecalls.com and the secret list. This is a wonderful web site to explore and learn from the mistakes of others. It is also, sadly, a roll call of those whom have made the ultimate sacrifice, in their service to their communities.
We have all joined the Public Safety Community for a variety of our personal reasons. Some of us are paid, while others volunteer. Many are firefighters, while others enjoy the EMS side of the house. We have active firefighters, line officers, chiefs, administrative officers, and a number of old timers who have seen most of the mistakes already made at least once. We have firefighters with many many years of experience, and others that, well, don’t. All are welcome here in The Nation. We welcome your input, just as we hope that you learn from the experiences of others.
Personally, I have 31 years service to the local fire department. I have held most line officer positions, and some administrative as well. Now part of the Old Guard so to speak, I am less inclined to go charging into where others are trying to escape. Instead, I choose to monitor the fire scene closely, attempting to ensure the safety of all on the fire scene.
I welcome you to the FFN. Here we all share one common goal.....
Thanks for the add request. Can't believe how fast time has gone in my fire service experience already 18 years. You will soak up experience fast and be able to say the same before you know it.
You will love EMS, just hate the paperwork. Hang in there and keep learning, go as far as you can with training. There is no limit to want you can accomplish or where you can go.
Nothing like getting thrown right into the action. If you don't change your mind about EMS after a few calls like that you will be just fine, enjoy the ride......
Oh, its pretty good down here. I'm going to a Beer fest, I mean Shamrock Festival Saturday in DC and its all i can drink, oh ya! Hope your staying out of trouble and I'll talk to ya later.
Well how did u make out last week with the weather? Did u get any of the snow storm that hit NY? Did u get pressed into action, bad weather always adds to action. It was a little crazy here.
