I was always going to join the fire department to follow in the footsteps of the men in my family. I figured why not be the first female to join in the family. September 11th was my push to join. I love it. Hearing the siren go off, driving to catch the rig and getting ready to get to that front door, it's a hell of a rush.

Why I Joined Fire/EMS
It's a family thing and it's my way of giving back to the community. Living in a small town, it's nice to help people that you see often.

I live in Cobleskill, about 40 minutes west from Albany. We are volunteer, we do 700 EMS calls and 400 Fire Calls a year out of one station with 4 engines, rescue, Tower, Brush truck, Tanker, and two ambulances. Its a nice peaceful place to live and raise kids. I had a friend who lived and volunteered in Coram, his name is Chris Pascoe, maybe someone will remember him.

Not too bad~ had a structure fire mid-DEC and the first 3 shifts this year brought a boat fire & 2 vehicle fires!! Pretty exciting, in all actuality :) One of the guys on my shift had a lil boy day before last shift, too!
You cold up there? We just watched the Pats game & the Packers game is gettin ready to start. Looks cold up there!!!
  • Justin Hill

Thanks for the add. Love the page. You seem to have the heart that makes the fire service deserve you. Great to meet somebody from the Great state of NY. Stay safe and hardcore.
  • Crockett

Good for you. I know how it is to work for a slooowwww dept. Gets kinda old training on the same things~ especially with a limited budget :)

Hey there Erin~ We had a garage fire yesterday and a couple of MVCs, but other than that, not much!! We went 8 days straight w/o a call last week, so we've been pretty bored. We're in the middle of a really bad drought, but had an unexpected week of drenching rains about 3 weeks ago; the overall water table is still way low, though. Our brush fire season has been surprisingly slow, with a couple in surrounding districts- but the big one hasn't come yet!! How are things up there going?
  • Crockett

What's new buckaroo?? Not too much on ths end. Just hot & humid as HELL~ starting our summertime pattern of circa 4p.m. thunderstorms. We can usually set our watches by them!! They bring strong wind and sometimes lightining, and you know what that means =] Oh yeah- the other 2 guys on my shift (we only run 3 FFs & 1 paramedic/shift) decided to become Contract Firefighters in Iraq/Afghanistan. They're shipping out in like a month. For like $95K ($85 tax free) it's not too bad! They get that for base salary PLUS they get a certain amount per call. I might be going back into the Army as a firefighter, too. Still running the numbers.

What's up?? Haven't been on in a while~ We had a pretty good save on a 4000sq. ft. 2-story house the other day. I'm first due on the engine with a rookie volunteer, but the best is that we had JUST finished a rather sixeable dinner at the local diner and were joking about puking in our masks at "the big one". Then the tones dropped =]
I'll put pics up in the next few days. How have you been doing?? Stayin busy?
