Welcome to the Firefighter Nation. In addition to the relatively cool videos and fire scene photos, there are numerous groups, discussions and chat available.

If you have never had the opportunity, take a minute to explore firefighterclosecalls.com and the secret list. This is a wonderful web site to explore and learn from the mistakes of others. It is also, sadly, a roll call of those whom have made the ultimate sacrifice, in their service to their communities.

We have all joined the Public Safety Community for a variety of our personal reasons. Some of us are paid, while others volunteer. Many are firefighters, while others enjoy the EMS side of the house. We have active firefighters, line officers, chiefs, administrative officers, and a number of old timers who have seen most of the mistakes already made at least once. We have firefighters with many many years of experience, and others that, well, don’t. All are welcome here in The Nation. We welcome your input, just as we hope that you learn from the experiences of others.

Personally, I have 31 years service to the local fire department. I have held most line officer positions, and some administrative as well. Now part of the Old Guard so to speak, I am less inclined to go charging into where others are trying to escape. Instead, I choose to monitor the fire scene closely, attempting to ensure the safety of all on the fire scene.

I welcome you to the FFN. Here we all share one common goal.....

    Everyone Goes Home

Welcome to the nation. I am traveling with the family to Gatlinberg in June, are you near there? Not sure if I should be afraid of your toys or feel safe that you are standing by to protect and kill. Stay safe.
  • Bob

Hay, thanks for the $ warning. I bet that you may not have the "toy" with you all the time, but I bet you carry your "baby". I recently have been more involven in some of our EM and currently overseeing CERT development. I have been interested in going to Aniston for training, just haven't got to it yet. I may contact you later for more info. Stay safe.
  • Bob

Wow, your new picture scared me. What else do I need to know before I visit TN?
  • Bob

    Have a great weekend.........................
  • Bob

Dollywood....nice. Let me know what you like the best there. We will be in Gatlinburg first week in June and that is going to be one of our places to visit. Have fun!!!
  • Sara

Start with the coasters, then when it's miserably hot catch one of the shows (inside in the AC), then finish up with the water rides (so you don't haft to walk around wet), ride the train to dry off, go to the shops for souvieners and by then you should be sunburned, broke, and ready to go home!

    Hi Sara,

I see that you teach in Anniston. Cool! The COBRA class had to be one of the finest classes that I had ever taken. That was many moons ago though. Does Darlene still work at the Responder Lounge? Not that I ever went there other then for that one training session. (wink, wink)

If you guys are ever looking for an Instructor in the AZ area please give me a yell.

    Stay safe!

    Hi Sara,

I spent 25 years in the fire service in NY with the last 12 as a Specialist with the Haz Mat team. I had the pleasure of going to Anniston, Socorro, Playas, and Mercury in my grand tour of ODP classes.

How did I get to AZ? The cost of living in NY was a killer and I was working three jobs, never seeing my family. I got an offer out here and 2,600 miles later here I am!

I was a Fire Service Instructor II in NY as well as a ton of other certs, but unfortunately there is no reciprocity with AZ. So one by one I have started taking all the classes over again. Now not only am I a Fire Service Instructor I, but I got to sit through a Haz Mat Awareness class not that long ago!

    Take care,

    J Mac
