About Me:
Live in Malibu CA. Last year's Canyon Fire burned to my doorstep. Closest neighbor and church next door gone. Have become something of a wildland fire expert. Write wildland firefighter novels. Working on a novel about ARSON
Kurt, may check it out ...I was on a Hot Shot team many years ago (youngs mans game) But to be honest my "new love" is structure firefighting...Amazing how something can scare the hell out of you and yet excite the sh-t out of you at the same time.....LOLStay safe and take care.....thanks again........Paul
Hey Kurt, I will check it out thanks. I am always interested in good books about firefighting. Like WestPhilly said don't sweat it. Thanks for letting me know about the book..
Kurt, I loved the color scheme used for the graphics and photos on the cover of your book. Well done. It looks like an interesting read. I'll look it up on Amazon.com. Had the chance to drive through Malibu two days ago. Looked for some signs of damage from the recent wildfires but didn't see much from Hwy 1. Stopped by 71's to use the facilities on my way home, met Greg and Scott? couple of ff/pm's on duty in the squad. Which station do you work at? Took a picture of one of you rigs on Hwy 1 that was sporting chevrons on the back of the rig. Is this a new standard for your engines now to comply with NFPA 1901? Take care, Mike
Well yes there is burnover, there's fire jumping the firebreak, there are "widow makers" everywhere....and you usually don't have the luxury of water at the ready if the crap goes sour in a hurry...But I am a fortunate one that can say "been there, done that...." Have had the experience of both scenes......
Unexpected Risks of Firefighting-
Firefighters in a national recreation area in northern CA faced the threat from armed suspects protecting their marijuana site. Firefighters were told, "Armed Law Enforcement officers are needed to mitigate threats against fire crews and provide for safety on the fireline."
