I was a paid and volunteer member with the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department for a number of years, Volunteering in Mclean and then getting hired in the early 1980s. While there I was a member of the Haz Mat and Cave-in Teams, having worked on many of the heavy squads, Mclean, Burke, Fairoaks and the Haz Mat unit at Oakton. I left as a paid Fire Officer/Paramedic , after 17 years of paid service to work for FEMA. And lastly have been Chief of a small department for that past few years. I am now retired only teach on occassions.

I enjoy running calls, & going to various schools. But call me deranged, firehouse humor is my favorite, there are some sick jokes that come out of emergency services, funny but sick
Top Issues Facing Responders:
Devloping MANDATORY Fire Officer traning requirements and enforcement of these training standards. This applies to both volunteer and paid, there needs to be parity and equality in training standards regardless if you get a pay check or not.
