About Me:
Like i said i am new to my department. I am not fully trained but learning so much day by day. Our department has meetings every wednesday and we doing things for training and such. Ive been running calls for the duration of time, and in the begging just watching taught me so much. I love helping people and the community. So for anyone out there who is against or doesn't believe girls can be just as good as boys at firefighting, come down to our station. We have 3 girls in total (counting myself) and about 13 boys. We are a pretty close family, and i respect them so much. Never once have they treated us like we couldnt do something they could. Never do they forget to treat us as equals, and its such a great feeling to know that they have as much faith in us as we do in them. They never get mad or put us down if we can do something as well as them or if we cant life something the way they can or so on. They are amazing and help us and praise us for trying as hard as we do and keeping up with them. We pull our own wieght and bust our butts as hard as them. Making us a strong family of amazing people with great abilities.

Why I Joined Fire/EMS
My brother has been a firefighter for almost 5 years.. and a luietenet in the department for like 2 years.. he really inspired me to joing. I love helping people.. and although im still fresh and new at what im doing i love it.. i enjoy it so much. and im so excited to keep learning and growning. And to top it all off i'm with such an amazing department.. i don't think i could ask for a stronger group of people.. and if you are running into a burning building, or into a crazy situation, you need a completely strong group of people to run in with.
Why I Love Fire/EMS
helping people. reassuring people that a bad of a situation they could be in there are people there to help them.
Top Issues Facing Responders:
Unsecure situations. You may think you are walking into a certain type of situation... but 2 seconds into it things could be a complete other.. and you have to watch for that. Another thing is lack or respect. People call 911 for help, but when you walk into a scene where people who have called for help are being rude, and disrespectful it makes you wonder what this world is really made of. Lack of responsability of people for themselves. There are so many things and situations could be prevented if people were more responsable for themselves. When you've seen the things we have, you think twice about things like drinking and driving, smoking in bed or while half asleep, keeping up with your smoke detector, etc. Little things like that would prevent mindless rediculous accidents, and save the innocent.

    Hey Shanda,
Hope you don't mind this message, but I'm trying to make a Texas connection for a business opportunity that is going through the FDNY. More and more members are signing up daily. Its only in three states presently but will eventually be in all fifty. It has to do with the deregulation of gas and electricity. If you know anyone who's looking to make a second income, please let me know. Thanks and stay safe!
