Why I Joined Fire/EMS
It all started when I was growing up....toy fire trucks everywhere. It wasn't until I graduated high school that I wanted to have a career that would make a difference in poeple's lives. I made a decision to become a military firefighter which brings me to now....I am a firefighter for Burton Fire District.
Why I Love Fire/EMS
pulling (hot) women out of windows
Top Issues Facing Responders:
You can't fix stupid. Not thinking about situations you face on scene.

Take that and rewind it back!!
  • Jessica Shrewsbury

So which is better... Armed service firefighting or the civilian equivalent?
  • Asst. Chief Loftis

U know I will be there brother! Wouldn't miss it for anything!
  • Jessica Shrewsbury

Right on... Worry not, I'm sticking with the civilian side. I always thought military firefighting would be cool, but everyone seems to have the same opinion as you.
  • Jessica Shrewsbury

Training is the one thing I think our department is lacking in... We cant keep a training officer to save our lives.
  • Jessica Shrewsbury

I agree fully. I learn from everyone, everyday. However, it would be beneficial to have a more structured training program so that all of us could train together. There are many of my fellow firefighters that I have never trained with.
  • Jessica Shrewsbury

That is something we have been working towards. There has been a lot of mutual aid (especially with water rescue) this year. I am very excited for all of us to work together. We need to know eachother when shit hits the fan again.
  • Jessica Shrewsbury

You're not far from my home front now. Why'd you get called back up?
  • Jessica Shrewsbury

How long are you called up for? Stuff like that is the reason I could never join the armed forces. I couldn't stand to have my entire life uprooted at the spur of a moment... Are you getting deployed or staying in KC MO?
  • Jessica Shrewsbury

Is everyone subject to unexpected call backs, or did you just get the bad end of the deal? ...
  • Jessica Shrewsbury

I agree it sucks... How long before u really know what you will have to do?
  • Jessica Shrewsbury

That's too much drama/confusion for me. I would be a pain in the military's ass. I don't like being pushed around. Hopefully you can get out of going. Being a FF does have its perks.
