Why I Joined Fire/EMS
To tell you the truth, they talked me in to it. I really was not sure about the whole thing, started in a ECA class, and that led into Basic. Now i have been in this "crazy "world for 14 years. I would not trade it for anything,it is such a rewarding thing to me. I still get that rush when the tones drop

hi Susan thanks for friend request. I live in Bunbury western Australia but work at Harvey 45 min away for the Dept of Environment and Conservation, doing active fire duties in our prescribed burn season and summer fire roster sytem. I do a variety of jobs in Nature Reserves and State Forest. It was great to here from you. You sound like you have a great job. catch ya round Erin

Furnace is fixed and just in time since we're supposed to get to around 0 tonight with -45 windchills. And the pool picture, not my friends. I found it on the internet. I think it was firegeezer.com. Shows why we will never be out of a job. We had a fire yesterday where the occupant was working on his gas tank of his truck. When it came off the gasoline spilled and guess what the propane heater in the garage did? Yep, it's all gone, car, garage and it burned through into the house before we got on-scene and destroyed the house too. No renters insurance either.
  • Capkurt

I am so JEALOUS! 76, it's not even that hot in my house!
  • Capkurt

It's a little warmer, around 15 f today. We're going to get around 2" of snow today and maybe around 8" on Thursday. How big was your golf outing the other day? Your message had 00 people. I'm guessing the first digit got cut off. I do that all the time. Otherwise things are going good here. Finally got our new ambulance in service on 2/11. Just a few routine EMS calls. Finished repairing all the equipment that got damaged at the last 2 house fires. Stay Safe and cool in the hot Texas sun.
  • Capkurt

That's a pretty big drop and it must feel pretty cold when you were used to the 70's. Even with the weather changing it sounds like the golf course is keeping you hopping. Isn't good to sleep through the night?
  • Capkurt

It must be my age showing becuase I really enjoy my sleep now. It sucks to go on the 0200 run because somebody has a sore back from 3 weeks ago. The golfers in Texas must be just as nuts as the Wisconsin kind. They golf around here until there is too much snow on the ground to find the ball.
  • Capkurt

Thanks for the V-day card. Any plans for you & hubby? We are considering going out but it's still snowing on top of the 5" we got so far. Only 65 degree's. Must be wearing 3 sweatshirts and a parka, right? My wife was just in Dallas yesterday for a sales call. She said it was around 50 in the AM. She got to see the outside during the taxi ride from her hotel to the meeting and then back to the airport. Sales is so glamorous!
  • Capkurt

Sounds like a nice relaxing night. My wife made it home last night before the snow hit. She works for Schreiber Foods. They make cheese (go figure in Wisconsin) Actually, they are the largest privately held cheese company in the US. They have plants and customers all over the country and internationally. She doesn't travel out of the states yet unless you count going to the Bahamas for a sales convention. She heads up sales to distributors. I just got off the phone with her and we are probably staying home ourselves. Now I have to figure out what to make after I shovel the driveway.
  • susan

Well you have fun shoveling the driveway, sounds like fun,do you have to do that so she can pull in when she gets home? My husband has to grate our driveway after alot of rain,(we have a gravel driveway, pretty long, we have 8 acres). You have a great evening and i will talk with you shortly. Stay safe and alert
  • cowgirlmedic

hey thanks :) you have a safe one as well. and Happy valentines day
  • msfirefighter0

Hey Susan where is Brookshire? is it near Austin?
  • Capkurt

Well, the snow stopped after 8 inches since Sunday. Just in time for 2 more tonight with below zero temps again. This is getting pretty old. I may have to take you up on your offer to move to Texas! My wife is San Antonio yesterday and today. She gets home tonight. I think she's going to be surprised to see how high the snow banks are.

  • tony

    thanks for the add...
  • tony

    always....you too
  • tony

    where was that
  • Capkurt

Hi Susan, Guess what? It's going to snow here again but not until Monday or Tuesday. It might rain first so we can get some more ice on the sidewalks so I can fall on my a**. At least it's going to be above zero, yippee!!!! until the next arctic air mass (meteorlogical term, pretty impressive, right?) moves in.
  • Capkurt

Only 79? How are you ever going to stay warm? I'm turning very, very green with envy. Someday I'll wise up and go where it's warm. I just keep singing Jimmy Buffett's "Boat Drinks" song in my head and it helps me to survive. We've been pretty busy with a lot medical related EMS. Not too much trauma. Probably jinxed myself now.
  • Capkurt

Man, now I'm really jealous! Careful of too much sun.
  • Holly

No snow here (well, just a dusting and that doesn't count) and the sun has been out for the past few days. Almost feels like 32. That's pretty close to 83, HAH!!!
  • Doug Fisher

  • tony drago

Hi Susan, I just thought someone from the north plains should drop in and say hi. stay safe and have a good week.
  • Capkurt

You're right about the sun for me. Fair skinned and I burn pretty good but I'd rather be sun burned than freeze. I'll be warming up when we get to Florida on March 22. I just got back to work today. Took a day of vacation to bring my youngest to the University of Indiana so she could tour the campus. Around 16 hours round trip. Sucked the worst around Chicago from all the traffic. When we got home I got to shovel. Who would have thought? Hope the CPR class went well and the golf course is staying green. Talk to you later.
  • Capkurt

Fort Meyer Beach. Going just to spend a week on the beach, walking the sand, drinking a few beers and margarita's. I suppose this is one of your busy times for the golf course. I can't imagine it's much fun golfing 18 when it's 120F in the shade in July although that is preferable to the crap we got this winter. Rained last night and then turned to snow. At least it wasn't ice!
  • Capkurt

It's been pretty nice here, sunny, calm and around 30 considering it could be a lot crappier. I can't wait to get to Fort Myers Beach. So I take it this is your high time for golf?
  • Jim Legington
