i know a ton of the pfd firefighters and medics and they all get worn out from the call volume. they all agree that the city needs to do something about the problem. they know something has to get done. it's the city officials that are primarily ignoring the fact that the city is "underprotected". the last mayor shut downstations because he felt they were not nessasery to have the "protection" in those areas. the new mayor should start to consintrate on what is going to help his city and the people whom live in it. they should lift the residency policy and have a medic coure for those emt's that would like to work for the city. I can honistly say that i would do that if the city was willing to change their policies. i know alot of people who would. the firefighters and medics are not the ones at fault here, it's the cities government who has given them the bad image. the city has so many options right in front of their face and they don't want to even consider those options. I fel it is a slap in the face to the citizans of philadelphia and the private ems companies that are willing to help better the city. I know alot of the medics have p/t jobs with private ems squads and they have tried to help the city out by given proposals to the upper ecselon and they have been ignored. i'm all for the firefighters and medics, it's the cities government that needs to "change" it's view. the firefighters and the medics have been saying things for years and the city dosen't want to hear it.
