About Me:
My medic school class is the biggest group of dorks ever! (but i love em anyway!)
"Omg, wow girl you really are short! your height is a contraindication for a combitube!!!"
thanks guys, and fyi no I am NOT a midget... midget solely by height has to be 4'10" and I am 4'11" thank you much! and no I dont need a booster seat to drive the ambo or cruiser either..... booster seat is 4'9" lol :)
I absolutely LOVE emergency services.... there honestly hasnt ever been a time when i've freaked out on a scene, I just get in the zone and everything slows down.
I LOVE firehouse humor, even as a girl i think its absolutely hilarious, I will throw just as much crap right back at you guys as you throw at me and have a good time doing it!
I feel I owe something back to the community. I was a 26 weeker at birth with next to no chance to live and supposedly no chance for anything resembling quality of life. Now I am 21 years old, and have no limitations due to my early entrance into the world and stint on life support.
I eventually hope to be a joint flight medic/ police officer with the Fairfax County Police Department Aviation Division once I get my butt in shape!
Until I get my butt in shape I hope to be a dispatcher :)
Why I Love Fire/EMS
knowing I have made a difference in peoples lives
Top Issues Facing Responders:
having an adequate budget for proper equipment, training, and staffing -also-
having people that are actually both motivated and competent enough to do the work
Just passing by.... Congrats on the NREMT.... I too am one of those "Dual Vocation" folks. Besides the fire service I have been in law enforcement since 1982. Good luck.
Welcome to the Firefighter Nation. In addition to the relatively cool videos and fire scene photos, there are numerous groups, discussions and chat available.
If you have never had the opportunity, take a minute to explore firefighterclosecalls.com and the secret list. This is a wonderful web site to explore and learn from the mistakes of others. It is also, sadly, a roll call of those whom have made the ultimate sacrifice, in their service to their communities.
We have all joined the Public Safety Community for a variety of our personal reasons. Some of us are paid, while others volunteer. Many are firefighters, while others enjoy the EMS side of the house. We have active firefighters, line officers, chiefs, administrative officers, and a number of old timers who have seen most of the mistakes already made at least once. We have firefighters with many many years of experience, and others that, well, don’t. All are welcome here in The Nation. We welcome your input, just as we hope that you learn from the experiences of others.
Personally, I have 31 years service to the local fire department. I have held most line officer positions, and some administrative as well. Now part of the Old Guard so to speak, I am less inclined to go charging into where others are trying to escape. Instead, I choose to monitor the fire scene closely, attempting to ensure the safety of all on the fire scene.
I welcome you to the FFN. Here we all share one common goal.....
well hear i s a long story of how it happened when i was 16 months old when i had open heart surgery so after that i had a seizure and had a stroke so it paralized me on my left side so i don't have all that great of strength on that side what had happened was when i was born my heart had a small hole in it and had a vein on the wrong side of it so if it closed and stayed like that i would not be here so yea that my story
Hang in there. From reading your posts, you are going to do fine, and be a medic with Command pretty soon. Then the real fun begins. Just remember to take good care of your EMT's, they are truly the key to your success as a medic
Just dropping by to say Hi and let my friends know that as of today, I have been promoted to the rank of Captain. Brothers and Sisters Stay safe........
ROFL Taint that a damm shame. System has gotten so screwed up that you need as much ID to take a test, as you do to get on an airplane.
Best advice is that most repeated.....trust your gut. Don't read too much in to the questions, trust your gut. It's usually accurate. Unless of course you are thinking amputation is first source to control bleeding :)
By the way, one nice thing about being a medic is nobody can knock your size. Talent and skill make the day. When "size does matter", it's the little person, who can get into that smashed vehicle, crawl over the seats, and make a difference while the fire guys play with their rescue toys
just read your profile again. 26 weeker, wow. You have already beaten some very long odds just to get where you are, so congrat's to you. As to getting your butt in shape......well.....seems fine as is :)
enjoy your current "size" while you can. Life in EMS all to often means food on the run....grabbing a quick bite between runs, greasy spoon type eateries, allthe really bad stuff for our bods. Good nutritous meals are awful hard to come by. So, like I said, enjoy your current .....ummm.......size LOL
So your a white cloud to huh?? It seems all we get is med calls when I'm on duty too...We've has some good ones throughout the County...but nothing good for my Engine....
Off days, I keep a old monitor with me...here at home...
we'll get like a 10-75 calling all hands, but the moment I walk in the doors or the truck bay, we get a med call, then a cardiac arrest and it will just my chest hurt and then fall call...nothing serious, I fell out of bed type...
