Why I Joined Fire/EMS
I was sitting at a stop light, waiting for it to change to green, when the local fire department medic went by, lights flashing, sirens wailing....my heart went pitter patter, and I knew, "THAT'S what I'm supposed to be doing."
Why I Love Fire/EMS
Getting to look people in the eye with that genuine "I care about what happens to you" look.

    Congrats!!! Did you do anything special? I'm still a newly wed we will be married 4 months the 5th we did things a bit backwards LOL...AWWWW my little one turned 2 in April. And of course I have the two older boys 7 and 8....Have a great one!

    I figured as much. In response to your forum question, I grew up with my dad and 4 older brothers as FF's, so the best part for me is doing what I always thought I had wanted to do. Lucky for me I did vollie stuff first and now as a career guy. I enjoyed both, no bashing either form of service for me.

    In our area (SE Michigan) its not hard to get on unless the department has no openings. Most of them have a limit for # of members then have a waiting list if necessary. Obviously, for the paid jobs we have lots of competition.

    Keep digging, youll find the right department. You are making the right moves by asking for help from those who have been there...so many dont listen.
    Keep Testing, learn from this interview and remember most of us didnt get on the first job we interviewed for either.
    Get a book on how to pass an oral interview...doesnt have to be fire service related, presentation is presentation regardless of career field.

    hey i hope you find what you are looking for ems and firefighting is great, stressful but great if it paid better in my area i would still be doing it. but i can't support my family on it hopefully it pays better where you live good luck if your heart is in it you can do it . this job isn't for everyone thoe .     That's great. I am still learning and really "into it" even though I am older now. I DO NOT want to be one of the "old guys" who is coasting to the end. I guess growing up around it and seeing a lot of things over the years has taught me not to take it for granted. I love this job!
