About Me:
Been with Caledon for almost 12 years, have enjoyed the people I have met. It's a second family, we joke around and push each other around and press each others buttons. But when the tones go off, we work together and put all other things aside.
I have a job I enjoy, it pays my bills and my habbits of life. This was a job of courage and team work which I missed from my full time job. I get the best of both worlds, a job that pays and a job of reward.
Why I Love Fire/EMS
Team Work! Being part of the team.
Top Issues Facing Responders:
Working together, find that when dealing with Police / Fire / Ambulance that times we are not working together as a team.
Hey Randy, Many years ago I used to live in Bolton so I am quite familiar with your area. My location now in the southern tier of NY State is similar but the hills are miles long. I am 20 miles from the PA border. We also are rural FF with no water sources other than tankers or drafting. My son is paid on call in Lincoln, Ontario. so it kind of runs in our family. How many calls do you get with the Caledon Dept in a year. Last year we were 38 Med and 15 Fire. We are at 39 Med and 21 fire this year already. We have a 36 square mile area of which 42 % is stateland heavy forest.
Wow, many many years ago - I think about 40 odd I lived at 340 Henderson Street with my parents and worked at Yonge and St. Clair in Toronto for an Insurance Company. It was so far to drive I eventually moved in with an aunt and uncle in Weston. I would not have been in your area since about 10 years ago when I visited with my sister who lives in Collingwood. I would not even know it now. My son lives in St. Catharines area and does cell phone tower maintenance for Telus and when on call gets up into your area if a problem comes up. Where I live now our mutual aid partners are 12 and 13 miles from us and pretty much all fire calls get a two station response based on location. All fire calls in my area get a two station response due to the exposures. IF you can find Birdsall on a map you can see the stateland all around us. It is the deer capital of the southern tier and second in the state for deer population. The hunters get as many as 12 permits per year. My insurance company says the wife hits 1.2 deer per year. These are comp claims here if you put in a claim which I don't unless it totals the car.
Great typing at you and thanks for the area update!
Stay safe

Randy, Yea vacation time always goes by so fast. I never seem to get to use my time from my paying job. I manage the food and beverage dept. at a beautiful golf corse. I run ems at night and on my days off,i volunteer that time, love it would not trade it for anything.I have been the president of the service for about 8 years now, things are really changing. Stay safe. ttyl
Glad you had a good time.I'm gonna to ask Santa for a helmet cam.Bought a new Colorado crew cab a few weeks ago.Still hooking up lights and siren. We are getting some rain, still over a foot below normal. But,like you say,it ain't California.
Hello! Thanks alot for the info with the groups in your website. I joined "Trainers Corner" but i haven't had the chance to ask any concerns. Since i'm always busy with school and so forth......hehe! I am the commissioner for the "Association of Future Firefighters" at my school. I'm pretty excited! Alot of things to do with that club. hehe! Yeah......stay safe and take care of yourself. bye! =]
Can't take the heat eh? Well I am glad your snowy weather has started. Its turning colder here now... Just means I will have to hit the gym more to get my excercise in.
well i dont know what you would like BUT i do know that Quads are fun and so are Dune Buggies haha. im accually racing in a dude buggy in the baja 1000 this next week on teusday. its gonna be very fun. ill definetly chek out your groups and see what i can fit in.. im just trying to be careful because i really am NOT a firefighter so i dont want people thinkin that i am. im only an explore (volunteer or in training basically).
Good afternoon- well, Baraga is located in Upper Michigan. Its kinda the western/central part. Yeah, we got a few inches of snow a few days ago that stuck around- but it is pretty much melted now. There were sections of the UP that got a foot or more. Well, take care- be safe!
Another warm day here in south texas, its gonna get up to 88 degrees today. Now tomorrow its only gonna get up to 70 thats cold to us. I know thats probably warm for yal. Are you enjoying your days off? I have'nt had one of those for a while, during the day i manage food and beverage at on of the top golf courses, and at night i run on the ambulance,i stay really busy, but i love it(you understand). Next week we have our EMS Conference in Houston, not to far from me,so i will be spending alot of time there one of my jobs (i am also the president of the ambulance service i run for)it gonna be alot of fun. take it easy, stay safe ttys susan
Hey Randy. Hows things in Canada? Things have been quiet here, which is great. But its getting colder and that means fireplaces will be active and chimneys will be burning! But hopefully everyone has cleaned them.lol
Stay safe brother, look forward to chatting with you.

Glad to hear no one was hurt in that propane call! Things in my dept have been slow...which concerns me! Im sure you have heard of the proverbial "Calm before the storm"? lol We had a trailer fire 2 weeks ago that was extinguished in 5 minutes with 2 guys on the 2 1/2" line, other than that just quick runs like false alarms and CO detector activations.
Had a good call at the ambulance service I work for. Had a motorcycle carrying two riders get cut off and the passenger was thrown about 25' with massive head injuries and possible internal injuries. My medic and I were the only EMS on scene!! We got her tubed and started two lines and had the chopper land right there on scene in a field. She is a foreign exchange student from Japan, last I heard she just flew back home to a hospital near her parents and is recovering. I like those calls.
Well, Im glad we are friends now. Lets chat some more. Hope you have a great day.

Yes, its a great course. I took it at the fire academy in Montaur Falls NY and it was an educational time. I stayed at the academy for a week and had a blast. Than I went back and took Electrical Cause Determination I and II, they were good classes too. I than got Nationally Certified through NAFI as a Fire and Explosion Investigator. I love the investigation aspect of it too, its so challenging and rewarding.
I just joined the close calls group. Good idea, we have all had them, and it is better to learn from someones mistake than let it happen again. I have a couple dumba** moments I will put on there.
Randy thanks for your in put brother but were covered from time beeper goes off till a normal amount of time to get home after call is done its all a fight we must share
be safe

Had one myself a couple years back. (still not 100%) fell into a basement and landed on my head. Not a fun thing to do in a working fire. lol. I was so pissed at myself, I had taught that stuff for years, then did a dumba** rookie mistake.

Hey Randy thanks for the add, although I am trying to find out where I press to accept you as a friend. I have had a few people add me and I never can find out where the accept button is. Can you help?
I have an area that says you have 2 friend requests. Everytime I click on it it just keeps going back to my page. I Under your last message I already clicked add as friend. This thing is being a bugger,
