Growing up a group of my friends were firefighters and I couldn't do it because of having asthma. I moved to Virginia, and one of the jobs I had, the EMT's were always stopping by on their way back from a call... after talking to them several times, and becoming friends with them, it's what I wanted to do. I love to help people.
Why I Love Fire/EMS
I love the adrenaline rush that I get when the tones go off for one thing, and for the other, I just love helping people.
Top Issues Facing Responders:
We need more Volunteers!! We can never have enough help.
Be sure to invite your friends and co-workers in the emergency services. Thanks for helping us grow. Just use the 'Invite More' link in the userbox at the top right of the site, or just e-mail everyone you firefighter you know and tell them about the new site or add a bulletin to your Myspace or Facebook!
Check out the Groups tab and join any that are appropriate -such as your state's group -- or start your own, upload photos and video (including from YouTube, Google Video and MySpace), and more. Thanks for being - part of the first week of Firefighter Nation!
I was just checking out the profiles on some of the members and I was reading yours: how does a company get suspended? I have to say, I've been in the business a while and I've very rarely heard of that happening. If that's the case, it's not turning your back on them if you want to use your skills and they can't operate. I'd look around and see where I could run.
Just going down my friend list and visiting everyone to say hi and make sure everyone is doing swell. I can do this now with under 30, but things won't be quite so cozy later, I'm sure. So anyway, hi. I haven't had a chance to look at that site yet but I will try to get around there this weekend (if my kids will give me a few minutes). Hope you are doing great though.
Wow- I'm sorry to hear about that. I was sent up there that night by the State Fire Marshal to offer our services (I'm the Director of the State US&R Task Force) but there wasn't really much for us to do. It was certainly something that I'll never forget. I'm sorry you are going through so much with this and I'm sure all of the chatter isn't helping.
Well, it may not be much help, but if you need to bounce something off someone objective (since other than responding and offering assistance, I wasn't really involved), feel free to e-mail.
