    A FIREFIGHTERS PARENTS

A Firefighter’s Parents are in a class of their own,

Like an angel from heaven, like a prayer from the throne.

Their hearts and spirit are large as a mountain,

With smiles that sparkle like a sun-splashed fountain.

They have put up with me since the first sound I’d spoken,

Even to this day – that’s a feat seldom broken.

Though constantly aware of the dangers I face,

They rarely show it, not even a trace.

I feel their prayers protecting me,

Their pride for me is plain to see.

The love and support they have shown along the way,

Is the reason I am a Firefighter today!

Not mentioned enough, my love for you straight from my heart,

And may God bless both of you when we are apart.

    A VOLUNTEER'S LIFE

A fireman's life is one big surprise,
Usually he laughs, sometimes he cries.
There's always stress, toil and strife,
Hoping he's good enough to save just one life.

His wife understands, when he misses dinner,

If he runs out of church, don't think he's a sinner.

Answering a call, is tops on his list,

Regretting each one he's ever missed.

He tries and tries, but can't make us see,

The happiest men, still work for free.

Jumping from bed, fighting the cold,

Knowing what to do, without being told.

He rushes to the station, jumps on a truck.

Depending on skill, never on luck.

Putting his life on the line, for an unknown friend,

Hoping and praying, it won't be the end.
"The Bravest Men In The World", the title is fitting,

They all do their best, never come close to quitting.

Next time you see them, all their lights blinking,

Take just a minute, to think what they're thinking.
It's a hard job, so show them you care,

And help them out, with a little prayer.

    A FIREFIGHTER'S MOM

A FIREFIGHTER'S MOM is in a class of her own,

Like an angel from heaven, like a queen on a throne.

Her heart and spirit as large as a mountain,

With a smile that sparkles like a sun-splashed fountain.

She's put up with me since the first sound I'd spoken,

Even to this day - that's a feat seldom broken!

While she's fully aware of the danger I face,

She rarely shows it not even a trace.

But deep within - her thoughts are more prayerful,

"Lord, watch over my child - OH please - be careful."

A beautiful lady with her charm and appeal,

Never missing a birthday or my favorite meal.

    Like a rare-cut diamond; a priceless breed,

Always ready to help any person in need.

Not mentioned enough, like a prayer or a psalm,

"You're loved more than ever," my FIREFIGHTER'S MOM.

    A Firefighter’s Wife

    Chasing flames and saving lives is a firefighters thrill;
And I'll do this job, the best I can, with the Lords grace and will.
    But even though I love the flames, the excitement, and the roar;
There's someone waiting back home for me, that I love even more.

My best friend, my soul mate, she is the love of my life.
I am so very grateful that she is my wife.
She understands the job I do, but how she hates it so.
I hear her cries, and see her tears, each time I have to go.

    As I race to the fire, to battle the beast, I wonder how she is;
And pray to God, to let me return, to feel her tender kiss.
I know she won’t sleep, with her heart filled with strife,
She knows why I must leave her, to go and risk my life.

    She would only have to say the word and I would walk away;
And never fight another fire, or keep the beast at bay.
But I know that's something she'll never do, she loves the man I am.
She's proud of me for the lives I save and for my helping hand.

    Though someday soon, the Lord may say, this job will take my life;
And I must leave this happiness, of my family and my wife.
Deep down inside I truly doubt that she would change a thing,
As long as we're together and wearing her fireman's wedding ring.

    My Daddy the Fireman
    My dad has a job, and a hard one at that;
He is a fireman and wears a fire hat.
    His uniform is starched and pressed all in place;
He serves and he helps anyone in this space.
    He loves to help people, just like he does at home;
He cares for our family and never lets me roam.
When I hear sirens outside in the yard,
I say a quick prayer that the angels are on guard.
I do not always say and I hope my daddy knows,
The heartfelt pride and love for him I do not always show.
    Sometimes when he has to go and I feel so very sad;
I hope he knows I love him because he’s
    my Fireman Dad!

this poem was written by my 12 year old daughter please leave feed back
    half-a-firefighter

    I sit through the practice
    and try to learn everything
so i can please my firemon daddy
and i know what to do when the bell rings.

    When the tones drop
my daddy & i both run to the door
    he calls back" soon munckin!"
    "the time will be yours."

    I often stay up late
    to get a detailed report
    I always fall asleep
    so my mission is abort.

    I feel like I'm a firefighter
    I'm almost truly there.
    as my time ticks closer,
I will be able to share.

    The thrills of a firefighter
    my daddy expierence everyday,
I'm so excited for that day
    when i get to say:

    I'm no longer half
    I'm a real firefighter

    They Fight the Devil
It rises around them consuming all it touchs.

It rages forth with colors of red, orange and white.

Its breath like the fires of hell itself.

Its shadows as black as the darkest night.

They stand to confront it,ever wary of its power.

But stand they will to save the innocent.

There hearts race as they battle this evil foe.

For lives will not be lost this day.

For proud fireman stand the watch.

    A MEDIC'S NIGHTMARE

Iam the one who gets called out in the middle of the night.

Get in my ambulance and turn on my lights.

I get to the scene and you wouldn't believe what I have just seen.

The two kids I saw earlier talking about a party, are the same two I see myself putting into a bag.

I am the one who suffers and feels the pain,to see the loved ones who are left behind.

For what, I ask, all of this for a drink and a short ride.

Everyday I walk around , I look to see which one of the kids will I dream about next.

I can't sleep, they are in my dreams.

i got asked to compose a poem on the spot one night about a day at the firehouse. this is what i came up with

THE ADRENALINE PUMPS THROUGH MY VEINS.
COURAGE BUILDING IN MY MIND AND
MY HEAD BEING FILLED WITH TONES AND VOICES.
THWN THE RUSH OF ORGANIZED CHAOS,
ALL THE FAMILLIAR FACES OF MY BROTHERS.
    RUNNING, JUMPING, HUSTLE AND COMPOSERE.

    SPEEDING THROUGH THE STREETS,
THE THOUGHT OF PRAYER AND SEFETY
    FOR THE SITUATION AT HAND.
    ANTICIPATION AND DISTANT FEAR
    MIXED WITH PRIDE AND DEDICATION.

WE ARE READY, WE ARE STRONG, WE ARTE FAMILY!

THE CLANKING AND CLANGING OF TOOLS, THE ROAR OF THE FLAMES.
LIGHTS AND SIRENS AND SHINING RED APPARATUS
AMONG A CROWD OF TAN, BLACK AND YELLOW.
GRAB A TOOL, FIND A TEAM, DO A JOB AND DO IT WELL!

ENDURANCE IS A VERTUE, AS IS DETERMINATION.

THE DAY IS OVER AND THE JOB IS DONE,
BUT DUTY AND PRIDE FOREVER STAND STRONG.
CLEAN UP AND PUT AWAY, LAY TO REST THE LONG DAY.
SWEET FAMILLIAR SMELLS OF SMOKE AND SWEAT
AND THE THOUGHT OF THE OBSTICALS YOU JUST MET.

RELAX AND REMANICE WITH ALL YOUR BROTHERS OVER A CUP OF COFFEE.
AND PRAY TOGETHER FOR THE SAFETY OF OUR NEXT ALARM.

As we look around the world at firefighters both women and men,

I see a proffession none like any other.

We could be Wildland Firefighter where Nature rules

WE could be a Structual Firefighter where we are stuck in its confineds

Yet we are all the same since one name needs to be said Firefighters

Yes you could say that about the police.

However do the police bring police from other countries?

To help during riots or other disasters.

Yet we have firefighters come out of the woodwork when we need them during any fire

since we are that special breed of people

I see this daily as a wildland firefighter from division to even ICs.,even measily firefighters

We all fight that beast that threaten us so

We are called heros and yet just the sounds of those words,

We shake our head and just state we are doing our job.

We do it for the Glory of our God

Cause we know in our hearts that one day it will happen when

God will "PAY IT FORWARD" and be our hero to our rescue.

This week we honored our fallen brothers and sisters
We look at their lives as what we remember
The smile, the fear, and yet the satifaction in their eyes
It these memories that will live with us in our lives
Time may heal but time doesn't forget the sacrife they gave
Lets just remeber they are there protecting us
When we are fighting that beast known as Fire
God bless them as we do our job
Protecting those in our daily routine

    One More Time
    An Old Firefighter’s Request

    One more time
One more time into the dragon’s lair
One more time through to the bowels of hell
    One more time
    Just one more time

    One more time
One more time to feel the dragon’s breath
One more time to fight the Devil on his terms
    One more time
    Just one more time

    One more time
One more time to go where mortal men fear
One more time to feel the rush
    One more time
    Just one more time

    One more time
One more time one more good save
One more time a frightened life to rescue
    One more time
    Just one more time

    One more time
    One more time Lord
One more time before my time comes
    One more time
    Just one more time

Fred, I have visited your site and have enjoyed your writing. I am sadly not a firefighter, only one's sister and a wannabe but I do appreciate when I get to see what is in firefighter's hearts. The passion that firefighters have for what they do and the humble hearts of these men and women never ceases to amaze me. Thank you for your service. It doesn't seem like those words are enough, but I hope you will understand.
  • Karen Myers

Michael, I appreciated reading your recent post here. I pray for all firefighters and rescue personnel every time I pass a fire station or see the firefighters at work or on the way to a call, or just hear the sirens in the neigborhood. Those whose names I know I pray for by name but I always include all of you. You are an amazing family of men and women and your compassion for others and passion for the job moves me beyond words. Thank you for your service.

    Beware, the Dragon's Lair
    by Fred Eppinger
    October 1997

Beware, all ye who would enter the Dragon's Lair, for 'tis no place for the faint of heart and only a true Dragon Slayer will survive the test.

Those who will enter and return, shall be known as Dragon Slayers, and shall live high in the minds of the faint of heart.

Those who will enter and return unscathed, shall be known as having walked with the best.

Those that have entered and not returned, they have not died, for they shall live forever in the tales and minds of the brave.

Those that are faint of heart and will not enter, they shall walk in the shadows of the Dragon Slayers.
