Hey guys and gals got a question for you. I've been to a couple fires here in the last year where the fire was on the second floor with heavy smoke conditions but no smoke on the ceiling of the first floor. I've been looking over a lot of the NIST and UL flow path studies but can't seem to find anything about smoke flowing below its level of origin. The door has been left open on both fires but there was no change in either smoke behavior or movement. My question is: can smoke flow downward…

Hello everyone I am a former volunteer firefighter with a new passion to keep me busy...sure wasn't expecting to miss it so much. I make handcrafted Coaster and trivets (hot pads) and now skillet or pan hot handle holders. They are handcrafted out of the same material that our fire suits are made of. New material of course not used fire suits...I take a lot of pride in the products I make and I am proud to announce that 10 % from each product sold will be donated to the firefighter Terry…

Now before you all get upset about the title of the discussion, I am NOT the one saying this. I would NEVER say that about my volunteer brothers or about any fire fighters. I have been a volunteer for my community for 8 PROUD years. Ive been promoted to Lieutenant and currently volunteer for two different departments. I love being a volunteer, Im proud to be a volunteer, I love helping my community, and I'm not afraid to tell people that.
Now the reason that I am posting this is to find out what you all think about what was said (the title) about me by a very close family member. The exact words were "he is nothing but a half ass fire fighter", (because I'm a volunteer). When i was told what this family member said about me I felt horrible. I felt hurt, betrayed, saddened, and so much more. Now my question to all of you: How would you feel if your, (ok ill say who), your father said that about you? What would you do? Would you confront him or just hold onto it?
Hey Everyone. I hope everyone is well. I just wanted a little advice on my decision here. I am trying to join a volunteer fire department in or around Lexington, KY where I have my internship. And I wanted to know how all of your experiences have been. Like are they against women, do they accept women and then bench them, how is the training different, etc? Any insight you can give me is appreciated.

I am currently a CERT member in my hometown in IL but I have been trying to transfer to the Lexington, KY CERT while I'm here. I have also done a summer internship with my hometown's emergency management agency and did some work through that with my paid fire department. I also have my basic CPR and first aid certifications. Plus a few from FEMA. So I know enough about the emergency field but not specifically one field over another- if that makes sense.

There is a rumor going around my department and some others in the area that the term "FILL THE BOOT" has been copywrited. Does anyone know if this is true? The Confusion around this has brought up some issues with fill the boots everywhere. If it is copyrighted to the one use can we use the term for other things?
