Hey guys i am new to the site and to this specific group so forgive me if this has already been discussed. I am a Lieutenant assigned to a regional Haz Mat team in South Florida. This year I attended A class offered by New Mexico Tech, and funded by Homeland Security. The name of the class is Incident Response to Terrorist Bombings. I found it to be one of the best classes I have attended in my 13yrs in service. Not just for the info given in class and of course blowing sh-t up ,but for the info you get, through the discussions and exercises in class and the people you meet as far as their SOPs and war stories to gauge your abilities with size up and IC was well worth it. If you would like info feel free to contact me. The class and travel is coverd by the school and you are even refunded for food and hotel. Just thought I would throw it out there.

Kurt,

You've only tipped the iceberg of free DHS classes. There are several in the DHS consortium. I am an instructor at the Center for Domestic Preparedness in Anniston, AL. We offer a Hazmat tech course. It's a 3 day course that covers the specific hazards and procedures in response to a WMD. The 1st two days are a combination of lectures and hands on practicals. The 3rd day students go into live nerve agents Sarin and VX. We also offer many other classes geared for Hazmat, LE, Health/EMS, & Incident Command. If you would like more info on any of the schools in the consortium go to http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/odp/training.htm and for more info on CDP go to cdp.dhs.gov. Just as wtih the New Mexico class we cover all expenses (except wages). Anyone wanting more info on these schools is welcome to contact me. Thanks and be safe!
