What is it like to be a Pump Operator? How do others see you? How do you feel about it? Let each other know. I feel that the Pump Operator has one of the most important jobs on the fire scene.
Being a pump operator can be very self gratifing no matter what the situation was, if one was to have the attitude that "we went and did the best we could with what we had to work with", and there are some that feel no matter what happened they feel as though the didn't do there best. The pump operator/driver/engineer does have a very important job starting at the station, when firefighters climb into the truck and they roll out the previously mentioned people pump operator/driver/engineer is responsible for the people in the truck, the truck and all the equipment on it and if by chance the are going to a fire they are responsible for flowing water, the equipment that comes off of the truck and MOST OF ALL the people on the hoselines.
