My hometown -- Brookville, PA, population 4,500 -- is planning a 3-day celebration to commemorate the 100th anniversary of its volunteer fire department. It will be held September 17-18-19 of 2009. We're trying to get as many congratulatory cards and letters for the department as we can. If anyone would like to send one, here's the address: Brookville Volunteer Fire Company, 240 Madison Avenue, Brookville, PA 15825, ATTN: Century Committee.

What is it to be a Firefighter?

We are always asked what it is that drives us to do what we do. It’s not just about all the training, checking and re-checking our equipment, or riding through the streets with sirens screaming. It is about making a little kid’s day because you let them look at the rig. It’s about the unspoken thank you, you get when you save someone. It is about providing a service to your community that gives you a sense of accomplishment that you have done something great. To be a firefighter you accept the burden of loss that comes with the job. Being a firefighter you also get to experience the greatest high of saving a life. Firefighters are an eternal beacon of hope and humanity. Few others can claim to have such a high prestige. Firefighters are some of the few brave souls that dedicate their lives to the betterment of their community and are willing to lay down their life for a complete stranger without a second thought. What is it to be a firefighter? A firefighter is everyone’s silent hero and it is that which drives us.

let me know what you all think of this

Lets start fighting back on the traning class being called off due to lack of students. I have had all i can take cause of lazy butt people screwing up classes i want. They make us change all the time and now it needs to change for us.
Once people start to get left behind they will catch up if not than they will leave. (they arnt doing anything any ways )

Hey guys, and ladies,
Chris here, from Hydetown Vol. Fire Dept. (Dept. 14)2nd asst. chief, and 30 yr. vetran firefighter. Was chief, and Asst. chief in my previous dept. till the political crap chased me out. Been with Hydetown for 7yrs. and I have to say that it's been a pleasure and an honor to belong to this dept. Some great people in the organization. We average around 270 calls per yr. and cover 77 square miles, which I'd say is 70% rural. We operate two engines, a 2500 gal. tanker, a brush unit, and a medium/heavy rescue. We're located in Crawford County, about three miles north of Titusville, and 45 miles south of Erie. Be safe brothers, and sisters!!
