sprinkler systems & class A foam

A question came up in training (and i didnt know the answer). Does anyone think or know if class A foam could be used in a building's sprinkler system? If yes how long have you been doing it and how does it work for you, if not do you think it would work at all or make a difference

Draining and flushing the system really should not be a problem: a properly designed system has an "inspector's drain" at the end of the pipe run. You would simply have to close the main valve at the riser, then pump clean water through the system. Sounds interesting - I know what experiment I'm running next trip to the drill tower!

FDC to 3" riser (also feeds standpipes connections on floors 2, 3 & 4), branches off to 2" branch line. 1" steel pipe off the branch to 3 sprinkler heads ( upright, pendant and sidewall) so that we can practice wedging each different design. Each head has it's own 1/4 turn ball valve to enable us to choose only the head we want to work on. Next step, I think, is to extend branch line through block wall into the burn room, so that we can use the sprinkler system as an emergency system in that room. (And yes, we do always have a backup line in place - just looking at an additional safety aspect, as well as being able to show first-hand the effectiveness of a sprinkler in a fire situation.) We have 2-story burn room, adjoining 4 story training tower - custom built by local trade school students!!
