Hi Folks - I looked around though the older post and did not come across anything so here is my question.

We have a CAF system and have used the traditional combination nozzles over the years. There has been some discussion recently to going to a different type of smooth bore / foam nozzle to utilize the CAF. We did some test quite a few years ago with the special foam/CAF nozzles and did not see any major difference other than the cost. What do you guys think or recommend or have had success with?

Im unfamiliar with the CAF system. I've been with one department my very short career. Personally, I would go with a combo nozzle. I don't know the effect of a combo vs. smooth bore with a CAF system however, if (God forbid) you're ever in a flashover, you can full fog your nozzle and it offers a little more protection. This is obviously one of the many uses for a combo nozzle. I think it boils down to personal preference as well as what the brass wants for their department. I hope this wasn't a complete waste of your time and it helped a little!

thanks for the input every little bit helps. The cost of the CAF nozzles is quite high in comparison and so far none of the dealers or manufacturers have been able to say that is produces X amount of more foam or anything.

i came from a department that had a CAFS truck it was our first due engine.  We had the same problems with finding the right nozzle and what we came up with was a combination nozzle.  It had the smooth bore and also the fog nozzle and it worked great.  I can't remember what it was called but i am sure it would be easy to find.
