The Social Network & Community JUST for Firefighters
New member and a question
Hello all I am a new member my name is Dan and I am starting as a Volunteer FF in my local township in Sept. I have been reading up as much as I can and getting all the information I can get online and here. I do have 1 question though for all of you. In the 36 Hour Volunteer course what is all covered in this section? I have tried looking and I can not find any information on it and I would like to just know some before I go into it if you guys/gals could help me out some.

Pretty much the very basics. How a fire is made up, types of fire, different extinguishing agents, etc. You get some basic training and learn to use basic tools like ladders, hose, SCBA, etc. Most likely you may be using an Essentials of Firefighting text for the information, so everything you will be doing is very basic. Considering that most other folks going through will also be in the same experience level, things should be pretty easy.

What John said. You're basically going to get FireFighting 101 - the fundamental basics, without going into much depth on any of the topics.

In ohio they have a 36 hour class volunteers have to take to be in the department, then you can answer calls and start to train to FF1. Most of the Ohio departments I know of wont allow new members to answer calls in any capacity until they have completed the course.
