Fire Truck Moved from Frigid S. Indiana Station
JONESVILLE, Ind. (AP) -- A firetruck has been move from a Bartholomew County town's fire station to another station six miles away because water in the truck was beginning to freeze in the uninsulated building.
Wayne Township Trustee Pam Huffman says it was so cold that slush had formed inside the truck's water tank.
The truck was moved from the Jonesville Fire Station 1, which has no insulation and has become too costly to heat. Huffman says the move was to protect the $150,000 truck and that it will be returned once the weather turns warmer.
Some residents in Jonesville fear that the move will reduce their fire protection. There are about 80 homes in the community some 50 miles south of Indianapolis.

Inserting a pond heater in the truck's tank could have temporarily cured the problem. Who would spent $150K on a truck without being able to protect it from the weather elements? Poor planning. All this is IMHO. TCSS

Well if the truck stayed there it would do no good for the town if the tank water ice up but did they think about putting antifreeze in the tank would help it or some trucks have heaters on them for this kind of thing

I think the sad thing here is, they can't afford to buy a few rolls of insulation. Maybe Home Depot, or Lowes would donate the neccesary materials to keep this station warm enough to house a single fire truck. I would contact them with this story and also involve the media to an extent. These suppliers will sometimes jump at the oppertunity at possitive publicity. I believe fire depts also can add millage to local taxes, and should be able to recieve enough to cover a gas bill.

I totally agree with Chris on this ..........INSULATION is the answer!!!!!.......we did an insulation project and updated our boilers a few years ago and reduced our heating bills by 75%!! (not to 75%) . Our first year savings earned us a TIC from our board.

If they can keep the slush good till June, add some orange flavor, head to the County Fair, sell some Orange Slushies... Bamb!, they've made enough money to insulate the fire hall before next winter

Jeff, My guess is other issues are in play here. The station they moved the apparatus to is brand new. There are other apparatus in the older station. I'm watching our local newspaper for follow-up stories.
