PLAINFIELD, Ind. (WISH) - An adult and two children are in critical but stable condition following a serious fire in Plainfield.
The fire broke out at the Maple Grove Trailer Park at around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Fire officials told 24-Hour News 8, 44-year-old Bryan Hillman, a 6-year-old girl and a 3-year-old boy were rescued from the burning home by bystanders.
24-Hour News 8 caught up with one of those bystanders.
“It basically flared up from the back door to the back window,” said Kenneth Foerster. “I pulled out the little boy out of the back door.”
The mother of the two children, 23-year-old Amanda Van Horn was able to escape the home unharmed.
“It’s a tragic accident from the standpoint of two children and a male are in the hospital due to a fire," said Capt. Mike Wolfe of the Plainfield Fire Department. "We haven’t been able to find any kind of smoke detectors that would have alerted the family to the fire.”
Fire investigators say the fire started in the master bedroom which is in the middle of the trailer. It’s believed candles caused the fire.
Meanwhile, fire officials said the adult man and the two children suffered second degree burns in the fire.
The adult man was taken to Wishard Hospital and the two children were taken to Riley Hospital for Children.
The home is considered a total loss.
