Whats your preference on Pump Panel location?

We have 2 side mounts and 1 top mount. I've loved the top mount from the start. It gives you a clear 180 degree view from side to side, as well as keeps you out of the road. A few have suggested the rear mounts, but we have a good bit of highways and a 10 mile stretch of interstate in our response area, and personally behind the truck is somewhere I don't feel comfortable being on the highway.

both of our engines have side mounts and our tanker has a top mount. we are in the process of replacing our engine 2. We would prefer a top mount on the new engine, but we are limited in space in that bay. So it's looking like another side mount.

I agree with you 100%. The top mount is the way to go. You can see all the way around and if you are on the road you have a lot of metal between you and the idiot driving into you.

Our pumps have top mount and our ladders have side mounts. I like the top mounts, because you can see everything that's going on around the scene.

All our front line engines have top mount panels and we have two side mount engines. Our aerials of course are side mount and I would take the top mounts any day of the week. Even with as short as I am(I'm 5'4") I can still see everything going on around me.

I FEEL THE TOP MOUNT IS BEST AS YOU SAID FOR THE 180 DEGREE VIEW OF WHAT IS GOING ON AT YOUR FIRE SCENE AND KEEPS YOU OUT OF TRAFFIC I DONT LIKE THE IDEA OF A REAR MOUNT I HAVE SEEN A PUMPER WITH INCLOSED HOSE BEDS AND PUMP PANNELS ON BOTH SIDES BUT I DONT KNOW HOW WELL IT WORKS BUT ITS A BEAUTIFUL TRUCK THOUGH

My dept. has two top mounts. Which most of us love. A friend of mine who has worked for Houston, TX FD for 20 yrs says having a side mount pump forces the operator to walk around the truck, which he likes. I guess everybody has their own opinion.

the new truck we have the pump panel is in the the back officer side compartment and is very nice when your working at house fires and the only advantage i like about it is we have all electric valves amd a caffs sytem the extra 30 grand was money well spent !!!!!

I would love the top mount, but on my department we respond to a normal structure fire with 2 engine companies and the driver of the attack truck has to get all the equipment off the truck when someone needs it, because we have 8 engines, 2 quints and 1 ladder not counting the recue trucks, no one keeps up with where the equipment is on all trucks, so for us to have top mount panels, the driver would be climbing up and down all the time. All the major fires that I drove and pumped at most of my time was getting equipment off the quint for every one.
