IM DO FIREPOLICE,I FEEL WE DONT GET RECINIZED ENOUGH,NO HOW BIG THE SCENE IS,WHERE PROTECTING THE FIRE CO AND EMS,POLICE AND THE MAKE SCENES THERE WORKING ON SAFER,IF YOU DIDNT HAVE PEOPLE LIKE US THERED BE ALOT MORE PERSONEL AT THESES SCENS GETTING HURT OR KILLED ANY TYPE OF FEEDBACK OR ANY INFORMATION THIS WILL GREATLY BE APRECIATED.
BE SAFE OUT THERE
We don't have FirePolice in Canada. We have police and we have fire. We look out for each other, police takes care of securing the scene and if not available, we try to position ourselves to protect ourselves as best we can.
I do have to say though, there's nothing worse than going through life looking for recognition, just be pleased in your work and be happy you have something you enjoy. :)
Ah a great issue, Fire Police. Your 100% correct. They do preserve the area and divert addition disaster from the responders on scene trying to fix whats wrong. However, I have seen SOME (not all) fire police systems which have been flawed by the personnel whom call themselves fire police. All too often these people I am referring to are the ULTRA WHACKERS. They drive at very excessive speeds with their 200 strobe/LED combination sets with dual sirens and arrow stick. They clog the radio with useless clatter that a normal able bodies person would be able to make a sound judgement on. There aren't many departments that have a Fire Police training. It's fire training, or EMS training. They don't always know the command structure. I have even heard 1 fire police person who assumed command and started giving instructions to the incoming units. (one order will make you laugh. Told the first due to lay a line from the pond to the scene. The pond was 3/4 of a mile from the house. It was his 3rd week on the fd)
I have seen some fire police that have not only been effectual but an assistance to the IC as well. They can communicate incoming utilities etc to the command. These companies have trained their fire police. They have a strict setup which tells them the do's and don't(s) of their job. They have a strict radio policy for chatter. (for chatter they all use motorola talk around cb type radios)
I appreciate anyone thats willing to be part of the team, not part of a problem.
Kermit, if you feel that you are being wronged by your department, step back and look at who your personnel is that you have to work with for fire police. Go through your departments policies to review the SOP's and SOG's for fire police so you all are on the same page. If you are all doing your job to the best of your abilities, and without incident, than assume its a job well done. This is a thankless job we all do, we don't need an atta boy, or ego stroking to make us want to go back and repeat what we do, we just do it
