Should departments run federal Q's or not?

the Q is great, people move when they hear it and thats what matters.
Why would you want a siren that draws lots of amps, blasts out 95 decibels, makes peoples ears bleed when you drive downtown and the sounds bounces off the buildings, that makes your ears bleed when you go under a bridge, makes it so you have to wear headsets to talk to each other, makes kids and firefighters alike (one of the same) drop what they are doing and run to the front yard to see the fire truck go past them. I do not understand why people like those damn sirens that possess' more chrome than most cars today........Oh, I do understand why I LOVE THAT SIREN, for the same reasons I stated above. It is not a fire truck without a "Q". Nothing more anoying than to hear a electric siren and see a ladder truck go by.
electric sirens have their place. (see also ambulance and police cruisers)
I love the Q and would not trade anything for it but I have a story for you.

I was responding to an apartment fire a few miles away from the station and for some reason (someone probably in the private office where the paper comes in rolls) my engine pulled out behind our ladder truck. The ladder is the only truck in our fleet that has an old fashioned American La France bell on it. (You know the kind with a string attached to the clapper inside the bell housing that they use for special occasions.) The firefighter in the ladder was just messing around after he was fully dressed of course and started ringing the bell at the same time kicking the Q. It suprised me to hear the bell loud and clear right along with the Q as they turned the corner getting closer to our destination. I never would have imagined that anything could be as loud as the Q.

Any way, I still love the Q and would not order a truck without one!!!!!!
Now, if I could trade the Q for a guided missile launcher, a mini-gun, or Phalanx system; THOSE would move traffic.
Q!!! I wish we could have dual Qs
I hate racing, but in this case it never hurts to do a little Bump Drafting. give em a nudge see if they go faster...... Ok maybe not but thats funny
200 decibals? Shall I call up miracle ear now for us all?
I run out of a house with 2 engines (the truck was closed years ago the areais mixed Urban and residential, and I can attest from driving Both the engine with the 50 watt federal which has been involved in 5 or 6 Minor accidents at a major intersection 2 lanes one way into a four lane street with 2 lanes the other one way with a paralell side street 2 lanes either direction that with the stupid systems the "public puts in they're ghetto heaps" that the Q and air horns actually do get through the hip hop, while the electronic junk isnt even heard as far as bleeding ears , goes, dont ride on the front bumper.. I always say Oh and on the subject , I love the bumper mount Grovers Too... they actually peel the paint off your trunk if your driving stoopid ....lol
every truck in my town (around 20, excluding the ambulances) all have Q's. Nothing beats the the Engine, Tower, and Heavy Rescue coming out of my station with their Q's going full blast!! That and like stated before, when you pull up on scene of a working stucture fire or any other incident nothing in the world sounds better than the Q!!
Q Q Q Q Q Q Q Q Q Q Q Q Q Q Q Q Q Q Q Q Q Q Q Q, NO Q, NO FIRETRUCK, MAN I LOVE THE SOUND OF THAT THING...
ALSO IT IS A GREAT SOUND WHEN YOU ARE IN DESPERATE NEED OF OTHER ENGINE OR TRUCK COMPANIES, WHEN YOU HEAR THAT
COMING, YOU KNOW GOOD THINGS ARE ABOUT TO HAPPEN
Our Q quit working one day and when we got back to the fire house I checked all the wiring and found a broke wire could not stand riding in the cab of that engine with out that Q just did not seem right.
