My post wasn't directed at any one specific person. However, you seem to think there is a chance that I may have made some gross misinterpretation of your statements, let me quote the following from your posts::
"MY input, interior attack with supply line (2.5 or 3 inch...or anything bigger) USELESS, DANGEROUS, RIDICULOUS, a waste of time, effort and manpower....."
"I view 2 and a half as supply line and see no reason to stick a nozzle on it....."
"DING DING DING....we have a winner....2 1/2 = masterstream"
It was probably those statements I had in mind when I wrote my previous post. So no, I did not misrepresent your statements, grossly or otherwise. I believe your statements clearly express your views. I was writing/responding to those views.
Yes, you did write 1 1/2 and I wrote 1 3/4, I "mis-spoke", as it were. My bad.
glad we cleared that up,
Jack"
And I stand by what I said, on the interior of a fire building (the context I was talking of) I see no reason to stick a nozzle on a 2.5........and if I choose to have a 2.5 IN a fire building, it will be as a supply line (either to the standpipe system due to damage to outside connections OR as a leaderline to supple 1.5 inch attacklines.
And I do believe I explained the "DING DING DING......we have a winner....2 1/2 = masterstreams" statement....but here it is once again.......if I pulll a 2.5 to use as a handline, it will be a defensive line, and will/should be in conjunction with various masterstreams (unless the area is inaccessible to said masterstreams.....then it would just be more 2.5 inch EXTERIOR defensive lines)
Oh yeah....I view exposure lines (such as cooling off/wetting down exposures) to be defensive lines)
and it now appears that we got that cleared up....anymore questions, just fire away

1. to speak or write in favor of; support or urge by argument; recommend publicly: He advocated higher salaries for teachers.
I have NEVER advocated anything in relation to any interior attacklines.......I stated MY opinion, what I do, and what I WILL CONTINUE to do.......I have no need to speak or write in favor of, support by arguement, or recommend publicly my use of 1.5 interior lines.......BECAUSE I understand that other depts operate differently, have different manning, water supply...ect.
Anyone would be a fool to recommend something to another without knowing MOST (if not ALL) variables, I was stating what I do, have done, and will continue to do......and if my location changes (or things DRASTICALLY change where I am) then I will change too.....adapt and overcome.....it's pretty simple (or so I thought)
A 2 1/2 inch attack line is hard to handle especially trying to manuver it in a structure going around walls, etc. Our department used 1 1/2 inch attack lines.
Does anyone else feel like we are just beating a dead horse here? This was posted by Nik Cruze but the way it's going you would think it was by Mike Harrison.
Here is my opinion. I like to use a 1.75 for attack due to manuverability. I will use a 2.5 for attack if the situation calls for it. I am not above it.
As for idolizing a big city fire dept. I would have to go with Pheonix Fire. But that doesn't mean I want my dept. to be just like them. You have to have some sort of individuality to your dept.
Mike.... You are the one taking offense to everything people post on here and you want ME to toughen up? Take a look in the mirror. My time is already enjoyable.
WOW!! I made it to page two.....seems we have problems in the fire service. People, believe it or not the 2.5 is alive and used daily in fires as attack lines. Yes, we bring them in to the building, we do it with a crew of three people. Is it harder to move around, yes it is, and when your on the 1.75 and being chased out of the building your one happy camper when that backup crew is there with the big line! Unless otherwise ordered, all second alarm companies are to bring up there 2.5 lines in my city.
You haven't done much else than advocate for 1.5 inch lines and against 2.5 inch lines on the interior in this conversation.
When you said "Anyone would be a fool to recommend something to another without knowing MOST (if not ALL) veriables..." and the "NEVER" comments you made earlier about 2.5 inch lines, that's pretty strong advocacy for one size line - and against another. Your recommendations left out a lot of variables, variables that several others have addressed. According to your own statement above, that makes you a...well, we all can read your comment and figure it out.
Yes, I went back and read a few more pages. =) does it slow the crew down... yes but since when is that a bad thing? Slow down, take a look around and see what's going on? Been in many a fires with multi 2.5s flowing water!!
Ben, you stated, "You haven't done much else than advocate for 1.5 inch lines and against 2.5 inch lines on the interior in this conversation.

Now, please show me where I recommended to ANYONE to use 1.5 inch line.
To advocate is to recommend, I stated my opinion on interior attack lines......I would recommend and ADVOCATE to any dept. to use what they feel is right, and what they are comfortable with.......now if you want to continue to misrepresent what I say and how I say it, by all means continue (I kind of enjoy it)
But I will say once more (and I'm sure not for the last time) MY INPUT/opinion/feelings/the way I operate, is that a 2.5 inch line as an INTERIOR attackline is useless (and all that other that I said earlier) BECAUSE I feel that if a 2.5 is needed the operation should be defensive and therefore should have masterstreams in operation along with the 2.5 inch line being used from the outside (unless the only way to reach the building perimeter is with 2.5 inch lines...because masterstreams can not access it)
That is what I said, HAVE said, and WILL continue to say........I , in no way shape or form advised, recommended, advocated (or any other verb meaning the same thing) to any person or dept that they should operate in the same way.......hell, most people couldn't find 1.5 inch line today if they wanted to <----that was more sarcasm, I know it can be ordered via most any hose company's website....but 1.75 inch is much more widely used these days.
Yo, Ben!
If you learn to quote someone properly, "(it will make you look "alot" smarter)".
That's classic!
I sincerly apologize to all English Professors that have the misfortune of reading my posts.......since I typo-ed, apparently there is no need for anyone to acknoweledge any of my statements since I have comitter the dastardly sin of not being perfect.
May God have mercy on my soul.....that took alot out of me
