DESCRIPTION:Bringing Calm to Chaos: Managing the Recovery from the Cra
 sh of Continental Flight 3407\n\nThe Westchester County Department of 
 Emergency Services and Department of Transportation will co-sponsor a 
 comprehensive workshop on the Coordination and Recovery following the 
 Crash of Continental Flight 3407.\n\nThis presentation will provide va
 luable insight into the coordination, communications and cooperation t
 hat went into the recovery efforts following the crash of Continental 
 Flight 3407 in Clarence Center, NY that occurred on February 12, 2009.
 \n\nThe presentation will include radio traffic of the initial moments
  of chaos that ensued after a commuter plane crashed into a single fam
 ily residence just a few steps from the Clarence Center firehouse, kil
 ling 50 people.\n\nErie County Deputy Fire Coordinator Tiger Schmitten
 dorf will discuss the \"big picture\" overview of the local, county, s
 tate and federal agencies and the 1,000+ responders who cooperated in 
 restoring calm to this small community so quickly. He'll share how tra
 ining, teamwork and effective implementation of the incident command s
 ystem played such an important role in the overall success of the inci
 dent.\n\nTiger Schmittendorf serves as deputy fire coordinator for the
  Erie County Department of Emergency Services in Buffalo, N.Y. He is r
 esponsible for coordinating the training of 97 fire departments and mo
 re than 5,000 firefighters. Schmittendorf is a nationally certified fi
 re instructor and has been a firefighter since 1980. He served most re
 cently as a leader on the unified command team that managed the recove
 ry from the crash of Continental Flight 3407 in Clarence Center, N.Y.
