as an electrician and member of the fire department I often come across old light bars and have taken an interest in restoring them.
many ive found were cluster**** of a wiring mess or damaged
quite often i rewire them and restore the functionality of the components, but ordering replacement domes is often a trial and when you can get them its prohibitively expensive.
I use a good quality brass polish and a little elbow grease to restore them to nearly new clarity!
It will not take out heavy scratches but it does a good job clearing them up.
these lights are often reused or sold to collectors with the proceeds going into the halls general fund
anyhow i thought i'd pass on the polish tip to anyone who doesn't know it.
the stuff will probably work on headlights too.
