Sir first let me ask you this what condition is it in and second you should always be concerned about your saftey thats what keeps you alive. Also the gear if your department has kept it that long probly wasnt in use that long so i wouldnt be pulling my hair out over it. Now back to the age vs. condition my gear when it was issued to me was 6 yrs old and and i pulled the tages off of it so be more concerned with the condition thats more important.
Be safe out there
If you got hurt (or killed) there would be an investigation. Charges and or fines could be levied against your fire co. OSHA is just one of the entities that would be investigating. There is a fire co. near me that may be fined $70,000 for alowing full beards on 2 men while wearing SCBA.
