Will be taking 50 high school students from the FFI class thru this on this Friday. It is the final training in the year long program. 15 years running this program has been quite a success.

Some of the best training in the world is the Phase 1 flashover container! One saftey note to all! I wore a pair of my station issue "rubber" turnout boots to the train the trainer Phase 1 flashover prop. If you wear these type of boots yourself, I highly recommend you check this problem which cause me to sustain a small 2nd degree burn on the top of my foot. Inside my boots the felt liner which is there to help with the thermal layering, between the toe and the shin portion of my boots, there is NOT any felt or other insulating material at all. Because of the lack of thermal layering inside the top of my boot was able to become so hot and transmit that heat directly to the top of my sock covered foot. I would highly recommend you never wear any boot that does not have complete thermal insulation to keep the high temps that are found inside the Phase 1 container. Just as the instructor had warned during the briefings, I started to feel an uncomfortable hot spot and removed myself from the training very safely, but still have the burn to remind me of my equipment shortcomings! No one with newer leather turnout boots had any burns at all and inside those boots are a complete thermal layer from toe to the upper boot opening. I would hate for anyone else to sustain a burn like I did because it is preventable by the type of equipment worn. Be safe everyone!
