Firefighters applaud Andy Delgado, back to camera, a five-year-veteran of the Camden Fire Department, as he tells them to keep their hopes up Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2011, in Camden, N.J., as they prepare to turn in their gear after being laid off. About 335 workers, representing one-sixth of the local government work force, lost their jobs, according to Mayor Dana Redd. It was worst in the public safety departments, where nearly half the police force and close to one-third of the city's firefighters were laid off. (AP Photo/Mel Evans)

Just wait till their house is ablaze and there isn't enough man power. Will they think twice?

I am guessing that Camden's bean counters and elected officials ALL have residential sprinklers and are armed to the hilt because they are likely on their own if a fire or crime happens in THEIR home...

Either that or they live out of town and it doesn't impact them.

Un-real.

I find it very hard to believe that fire fighters & probably police as well getting laid off their jobs .
This does not make any since because fire fighter are needed , and with the lack of police officers
just think what can happen . I bet the top brass got to keep their jobs, and maybe even gave
themselves a raise . This seems to be the norm today . If there is anyone who has the computer
smarts, maybe they could fwd this to support the police dept .
Keep up the fight with the city , and I would like to hear from anyone who is a fire fighter.

Its really sad to see politicians put the public at such a risk by targeting public safety personnel. they should be looking at all the unneccisary aides floating around in government. ( local, state and federal) I wonder who will respond if their house catches fire or robbed.
