I lost a brother at my full time job with the sheriff's department. Sgt. Shaw was killing in the line of duty on Nov. 12 2009. He was hit headon by a delivery truck hauling trusses. I have been on the fire department as a volunteer for a little over 2 yrs now and lucky we haven't had a firefighter seriously injured or killed.

my dept has lost 2 fire fighters in 2001 in a house fire and 1 injured in the same fire then a couple years ago lost another to a heart attack.

I recently attended a fire fighter funeral...my first one and it was hard and very very stressful. Our Fire and Rescue team has lost one to a driver under the influence of medication. Left behind a family who will truly miss him.
R.I.P. Capt. John E. Gerard....we surely miss you.

While we have never lost anybody to a fire, we have lost one to a drunk driver. I remember how hard that was,i cannot imagine losing one in the line of duty. My sincere condolences go out to any fire department who has or is currently going throug a rough time like this.
