hey all!!!!  ok so im not an investigator. but im in in school for a fire degree. id like to eventually get in to investigation, im not sure what that entails so could anyone tell me were to go to research this part of the fire service? and kinda what its about. thank everyone happy new year!!!!  Stay Safe All!!!!!!!!!!1!

I've been away from FFN for a while, checking things out again... joined this group because I am now studying and training in fire investigation. I have over 80 hours on CFITrainer.net, took a Fire Scene Assessment course locally (more of an intro to Origin & Cause with an emphasis on arson). Looking into the IAAI (international and/or local chapter).

Hi everyone, I am wanting to get some good info on what colleges or cert courses to go through to become a fire investigator. I've been a volunteer for 7 years and am wanting to expand my horizons. The only problem I have is I don't have a lot of money to go to school. So, if anyone can help me in finding the right college or courses to take as well as maybe grants or loans as I have know idea how much it costs to go . Thank yal so much for your time. i would encourage everyone wanting to become an investigator to become certified at some point and stay current on NFPA921. The biggest benifit to certification is the credibility you obtain. The judical community has a tendancy to discredit investigators who are not certified. CFI or CFEI demonstrates that you possess the ability to determine cause and origin as a professional and not a layman

Does your departments require that you obtain a certification for investigations, if so, who do they send you to? The department I work for sends us to NAFI (National Association of Fire Investigators).

I second Robert - CFITrainer.net is an excellent resource. I have certifications on all the modules offered and have learned some valuable info along the way. It proves you can teach an old dog new tricks lol. Never stop trying to learn.
