Scott-just a post on training ideas. I am going to try a drill with our Honor Guard to brush up on the basics. This is a team building style of drill. It's called the Lighthouse Drill. you take 3 people and have them stationed around the bay or parking lot ( they are the lighthouses ). One person gives verbal orders/directions to a blindfolded person using drill commands while the blindfolded person navigates through an obstacle course ( cones, etc. - whatever you choose ). The person giving commands directs the bindfolded person to each of the Lighthouse and they pick up a item from each lighthouse ( candy, tool, etc. ) the only person allowed to give directions is the command person, but Lighthouse people can give encouragement after they have been found. This drill enforces good listening skills, everyone gets to try their hand at giving commands-reinforcing the ability to lead if needed. Just an idea.

Apparently, I need to apologize to someone, I am sorry. Let me fix my wrong doing by saying that, I am not the commander of the Honor Guard, I was selected to be in charge of the Committee to establish an Honor Guard by Our Department Officers and by vote of the Fire Department Members. I did not mean to hurt someones feelings on my department. I was just trying to get all the information possible to help establish a great Honor Guard for our Super Fire Department. So we can get started on training to be the best at honoring our fallen.

I am the Commander of the Wytheville Fire Department Honor Guard. We have recently started our Honor Guard team. I need all the help I can get. If anyone can send me policies and procedures or anything else that you think could help me. I need any info anyone would like to send me. We have an aging department and want to give the respect to our fallen members they deserve. Thank you for any help you can give me. If my email address would help here it is; wfdmedic13@yahoo.com Thanks again! God bless and be safe.

Anyone else her have trainings, clinics, refreshers?
What is taught or practiced?
We are always looking for ideas to keep things fresh while still hitting the basics.
Our Guard drills once a month and we are always rotating the place (we have a number of Guards in the metro Milwaukee area) and we try to rotate the theme.
