The Backroom Crew

This is a place where we can sit down, put our feet up and chill. Where the Boys and Girls can just be themselves. The Back Room or what most firefighters call a ''day room or rec room'' is the social point of every firehouse.

Don't get me wrong. I have A LOT to learn.

I've done my share of stupid things. However, I take my failures and learn from them.

There is no thing as having enough training!!!

I agree!

I love our requirement here. If ya don't know what you are doin on the scene, then ya shouldn't be there.

There's a difference between learning and stupidity. If you are on a call to gain experience, like me, good. But if you go in acting like you are top sh*t, but can't find stuff in your own rig? Forget it.

That's what we are gonna start doing. I'm tired of having to tell people where stuff is at on the equipment.

To ride any rig in my primary dept you HAVE to pass a test showing your knowledge of the rig and whats in each compartment!

Rig test!

Learn where all the equipment is along with commitment and training and You'll do fine. Nothing ticks me off more than when people don't know where the equipment is. We were at a fire a little while ago and we were taking our packs off and I wanted to put fresh bottles on incase we had another run . This person I asked to change bottles had NO idea where they were kept on the engine. REALLY! I should have told her to go sit in the rescue...but I didn't think about it them. She has been on 2 calls this year and 5 last year. We are up to 135 for this year and had 596 last year...this includes EMS which is 90% of our calls.
