Over the past few years I have been working on the Gas Monitor Simulator, focusing on the way Mine Rescue Teams conduct gas monitoring. I would like to hear some thoughts on confined space entry/gas detection. Do you think more training needs to be done? If yes, then what can be done?
Thanks, John Holtan

I applaud your efforts by developing a confined space, MSHA gas monitor simulator! As a trainer and the Director of Confined Space Training Services, I too feel there is a need for simulations like this. I have researched and asked many gas monitor developers to build a simulator for me and the other trainers but to no avail. The simulator I ask for is the look and feel of the Biosystems unit that I use for class but would allow me the trainer to adjust the atmospheric levels at my leasure wirelessly. No one was interested and each said there is no market there for it. I find that hard to believe as there is an apparent market for an AED Simulator that looks and acts like a real unit. Apparently not in air monitors though. I commend your efforts in making this a reality for trainers like myself. We are looking at the ability to implement your simulator with our confined space simulator to make the training even more realistic. I plan to explore the opportunity to use your apps with the Ipod touch. My only question is since we are at different locations all over the US, can I purchase the 2 Ipod Touch's and a wireless router and have the system work? If so, I am set to jump in.
Hello Scott, Absolutely purchase your own equipment. Feel free to call me or I can call you if you email me a direct number to call. I would be happy to provide you some demo days to try it out. I would also like to talk to you about the AED Simulator as well. This has been a thought of ours as well. With our proprietary communications protocol this can be done relatively quickly as well.

I look forward to working with you. Thanks for the reply.

Simulations that put the trainees out in the field and perform their operations makes training more realistic. Get them out of the classroom and make it real. Challenge them in a realistic situation in real-time.
