Lets make sure there are more firefighters than business people on that committee so it'll make more sense. Trust me, I'm a card carrying member of NFPA.

Mike thanks for invi...wish we had them here in N.C......I miss N.Y. in this respect of volunteer fire service...it gives quicker response when traffic is invoved...my old group in NY knew exactly what to do....I got off the truck and went to work....here we do it....it also keeps the older members around, gives them something to do and we dont lose their knowledge....Chris.......... have a great weekend

Well guys and gals its good to see this here. I've been the FP Capt. at our combination station in Fl for 18 yrs and enjoyed every minute of it. And have pretty much seen everything but NOT all kind of scenes. All of our FP are basic FF trained. There are 2 retired chiefs and a retired Detroit FF plus myself and my wife who are FF trained. We respond to everything that is paged to be there for backup to our guys. At a med call if its bad you all know that every hand could be helpful, and we goto the hospital to pick our people up and not tie up a truck to do it. We do traffic control and crowd control that our PD just lets us take the control of while they do their jobs and appreciate us to NO end. Our guys on the trucks can do their jobs and don't even have to consider a traffic or crowd problem to get in their way. You can go to my profile and see our 95 Ford van that is loaded with 80 cones, lights, signs and flags for whatever is needed. Myself and 2 others are Fl state certified to operate our Tower 11 that frees up 2 FF's that can go up in the platform and do their job. Its actually hard to think that this group of people is not a standard for a Fire Dept. Fire Police that when availible is such a good thing to have to assist the Fire Guys and the PD when they need them on a scene. I thank everyone of you for your service. God Bless everyone of US.

That is extremely different from here....we don't have anything that is similar, other than armed security guards and they aren't operational in the emergency services, not to say it won't happen here eventually...any mva/rescue is ruled by the police and they have the final say unless it is a fire/rescue situation, they do all the traffice control etc
